Getting it professionally done is still pretty cheap. Unless you have a lot of them, it probably isn’t worth doing yourself. Inexpensive tools for consumers tend to result in very poor quality exports and anything that actually looks good tends to cost $100 or more to set up. Most professional services for VHS to DVD or VHS to MP4 can give you high quality results for under $20/tape.

You gotta realize none of that will ever happen because the Democrats lack the political will to even make a serious attempt.

I am indeed aware of the existence of radios. I dislike radio because I prefer to have some level of control over what I’m listening to. Even with algorithmic slop I can skip tracks if I want.

There’s a girl on Instagram whose whole schtick is that she sends feet pics and stuff to MAGA guys and then openly mocks them for financing her lifestyle and donates some of the money to progressive causes. She has been doing it for months and I’m convinced part of the appeal for these guys is the humiliation ritual of being “owned.”

I had been using YouTube for “background noise” a lot — nothing political, just movie reviews and video essays about pop culture. In general, my YouTube diet is pretty non-toxic.

But I fell down a rabbit hole researching a band lately and have been obsessively listening to music for a couple of weeks. Mostly on my MP3 player to give my phone a break. And holy cow it feels nice not to be bombarded with curated Content all the time. I didnt even realize how consistently/constantly there was just STUFF on that, while not bad, wasn’t really contributing anything to my life.

Paramount has far less liquidity than Netflix does, and this is going to be a lot of borrowed money. A not-insignificant portion is coming from the Saudis, and that money will have strings on the strings attached.

More broadly, it also means that WB is once again under new ownership by a parent company who took on a destabilizing amount of debt to get the deal done. That’s the same thing that happened with AT&T and then Discovery. And under Zaslav and Discovery, the job cuts have been significant.

Paramount also has a lot more redundancy built in since they basically have an identical business model and similar assets. Why do they need another Burbank lot? A bunch more shitty, unprofitable cable networks?

I thought a BD duplicator. Multiple drives, just put the professional disc in the top and a blank in one or more of the others. Obviously blanks are less resilient than pressed discs but it’s a backup and I didn’t need to have specialized skills to do it.

Yes but vinyl’s resurgence is like a decade old now. People were actively abandoning DVD while stocking up on vinyl.

People need to start murdering these people. We are out of peaceful options.
