[Amerigo Gazaway: Verse 1] Before I forget, there’s some sh*t need to get off my chest Had a lot of ups and downs, had a lot of regrets Had a lot of close calls, lost a lot of my friends I’ll leave a roadmap for those who want to follow my steps It all started in Music City, where the story begins Cashville, I was born around a quarter to ten If I could rewind time and fast forward events I’d go back and tell everybody to hold onto what’s important to them ‘Cause it could all be gone an instant So we remain close even though we long distance And I hope I get to see you on Christmas ‘Cause it’s been far too long since we kicked it [Amerigo Gazaway: Hook] I’m real sorry if we haven’t been speaking much I’m working hard and I haven’t been sleeping much Next time I’m in town maybe we could meet for lunch? I hope you’re doing well fam, keep in touch I’m real sorry if we haven’t been speaking much I’m working hard and I haven’t been sleeping much Next time your in town maybe we could meet for lunch? I hope you’re doing well, yo keep in touch [Amerigo Gazaway: Verse 2] Sup fam, been a minute since we kicked it last Sorta brings me back, like the ghost of Christmas past Or skipping class and the Donut Den spitting raps Joking on each other like you ‘old broke looking ass’ Damn I miss those days But now we all grown up, aint that sh*t so cray? Yo I heard you got one on the way What about me? I might settle down one of these days But right now, I’m trying to live it, and love it a lie Thankful everyday I wake up with the sun in the sky I can’t complain (nah), it’s been a wonderful ride And it ain’t over yet, I’m trying to take it one step at a time So don’t be mad if I forget to reply It’s just ‘cause I’ve been busy in the lab perfecting my rhymes I know I haven’t been keeping up as much as I like But life gets in the way, man you know what it’s like [Amerigo Gazaway: Hook] I’m real sorry if we haven’t been speaking much I’m working hard and I haven’t been sleeping much Next time I’m in town maybe we could meet for lunch? I hope you’re doing well fam, keep in touch I’m real sorry if we haven’t been speaking much I’m working hard and I haven’t been sleeping much Next time your in town maybe we could meet for lunch? I hope you’re doing well, yo keep in touch [Amerigo Gazaway: Verse 3] Dear Sis, I really hop you hear this ‘Cause I feel like we don’t’ be taking on some weird sh*t And it’s not that I don’t wanna call, not at all It’s just that when I see my niece’s picture on the wall I wanna ball, because we live so far apart I’d come visit more if I could get this car to start But instead I made this card, ‘modern art’ Signed your little bro, form the bottom of my heart Dear Pops, I’m still holding back the teardrops You lost you mom, Iost my grandma, it’s weird not Knowing that I could just pick up the phone And tell her how much I love her now that moment is gone So keep in touch with the people you love Because there’s always someone out there who’s in need of a hug And maybe next time I’m in town we could meet for some lunch And reminisce on all the crazy sh*t we did growing up, yo [Amerigo Gazaway: Hook] I’m real sorry if we haven’t been speaking much I’m working hard and I haven’t been sleeping much Next time I’m in town maybe we could meet for lunch? “As a record collector and hip-hop producer, I’ve always had a special affinity for library and production music from the ‘60’s and ‘70’s (especially the Boosey & Hawkes collection, which many of us DJs and sample hunters have become familiar with on our digging expeditions). While most library records are originally made with the intention of being used in film soundtracks, commercials and TV, they have also become an endless source of inspiration and sample material for some of hip-hop’s greatest producers and crate diggers.

Library music holds a special place in my heart, because I believe it often possesses a certain level of artistic freedom, musicianship, and an experimental quality rarely found in other more traditional forms of music. These were players and artists who were not attempting to make pop radio ‘hits’ - instead they were trying to enhance the overall emotional and narrative elements of the stories being told on-screen.

So when Cavendish Music reached out to me to see if I wanted to delve into their infinitely vast catalog, it was like a producer’s ‘dream come true’ and an offer I couldn’t refuse. To make things a little more interesting, I challenged myself to write original rap lyrics for each track and enlisted a handful of my favorite emcees and collaborators to join me for the ride. I hope you enjoy the results!”
