3·1 year agoFor some less optimistic, but still combative climate literature:
Climate Change as Class War, by Matthew T. Huber
Slow Down, by Kohei Saito
and right now I’m reading I Want a Better Catastrophe, by Andrew Boyd, and so far it’s interesting (and accessible).

6·2 years agoI don’t see why it wouldn’t fit here. There’s significant overlap between anarchism and solarpunk. Maybe there’s some other leftwing instance where this community would also fit (or maybe better), but that doesn’t matter that much due to the federated character. All this regardless of what my stance on voting is btw.

7·2 years agoMany people have purposefully moved away from Big Tech platforms, often because they cause them harm. Who are you to judge their defederation - which is a core feature of the Fediverse btw - as laughable? Every instance is free to decide their own policies, that’s the whole point.

9·2 years agoAre you referring to the Digital Markets Act that would force some large tech players to allow interoperability?
I think it’s a great step forward, although I think it’s only in 2024 that those changes will actually happen.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Opinion | On Dates, I Now Look for Climate CompatibilityEnglish8·3 years agoCoincidentally, I had a conversation about dating and climate change with a friend today. We both agreed that people showing off their exotic travel destinations have become a turn-off. Especially when they use airplane emoji’s in their bio. On the other side: it does feel like some sort ‘race’ to show off those fancy place to communicate how well off you are, and not having pics like that may make you less attractive (but then again, why would I want to attract those huge polluters?). Dating gets you in a weird headspace, fucking hell.

4·3 years agoI think ‘doomer’ is too vague a term.
I could plausibly be categorized as a doomer, I think we’re already too far along the path towards catastrophe and the forces against us are too big to stop it in time. But I don’t give up and keep acting, because every act of resistance still matters (and will always matter). It’s pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will; to say it with a Gramscian saying.

Good to note that the game Half-Earth Socialism was developed as an extra to the book of the same title, by Troy Vettese and Drew Pendergrass, that also combines fiction chapters with non-fiction.
