3·3 years agoAt least there’s a cheap option to remove them. I’ll pay the $3/mo.

2·3 years agoSad that the list of horrible circumstances necessary for such a hypothetical really needs to include 'lives in the US."

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What nonfiction books have caused a paradigm-shift in your life?
2·3 years agoI have the feeling a Sapiens might be a worthy member of such a list. I haven’t read it yet though. I’d love to hear someone’s opinion who has.

3·3 years agoGuns Germs and Steel. I remember feeling, after I read it, that I saw things differently. But now the ideas presented in it seem the most natural things in the world, and I can’t imagine I ever thought otherwise. Or maybe I had the same views before but not historical foundations for them… I can hardly remember now.

1·3 years agoNot just FF though. I have a few installed via Vivaldi. I imagine other browsers can too right? Not sure why FF specifically gets mentioned regarding this.

1·3 years agoLooks like it’s already on the Play store. I already have Infinity. I see now that Eternity is a fork of Infinity. The Play store listing of Eternity opens my Infinity app when I tap the Open button in Eternity’s store listing, since Install is not an option for me. I wonder if the app would be different from F-droid…,
It’s tabletty UI is pretty good. Maybe I’ll give it a shot for a while. I do notice right off that tapping many of the links in posts give me errors though.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that you were surprised to find out a lot of people hate?
1·3 years agoThe wonder is that any sex ever is seen as non-disgusting.
Well that’s what sexual arousal is: that state of being temporarily attracted to that which is repulsive. There’s an evolutionary reason to feel like sharing germs is disgusting, but also selective pressure to come together and do just that (to procreate). So we evolved this impulse to want to do what’s disgusting when we’re horny. But the bell curve of what is disgusting for us varies by person and cultural influences.

1·3 years agoLLMs are not overhyped. Perhaps those like ChatGPT which use the entire internet as their training set are. But LLMs with curated training data have ginormous potential.

1·3 years agoSame people who hate anything green because they associate that with being woke, which they further associate with people who want to take their privilege away? Or are there other reasons?

1·3 years agoI don’t think most US politicians take rights away or endorse those things because out of hate, but just to leverage other people’s hate in order to maintain power and enrich themselves.

1·3 years agoThis world is allowed to have Furries, and neurodivergents, and Flat-Earthers, and Bronies…
One of these things is not like the others. I don’t think it’s correct that vocal atheists will have less of a problem with flat-earthers than religious people.

They’ll definitely be looking for that, when it time to pick their presidential nominee.
