The Oil Shock Is Worse Than You Think

The war with Iran is preventing huge amounts of oil from flowing out of the Persian Gulf, but the prices that many people track don’t fully capture the scale of the disruption.

Only way to avoid it is to be in a place where you don’t need to burn fossil fuels or use products which are created by burning them (eg: get your nitrate fertilizer production to be solar based instead of methane-based)

Maybe should have put a bit more effort into renewables a few decades ago, eh?

It’s almost as if Jimmy Carter had the right idea.

It’s strange to me that the MAGA crowd are generally anti-renewable and pro-oil, when renewables are “more American”. A lot of oil is imported from other countries, while a lot of solar panels and wind turbines are made in the USA. The USA is #3 in the world in terms of solar panel manufacturing, and a lot of the parts are now being made in the USA instead of imported.

The oil industry owners have long been the patrons who fund the Republican party, and paid a billion dollar bribe to get favorable policy from Trump
