  • POTUS Donald Trump intends to use America’s wars with Iran and Venezuela as justification for cancelling the US midterm elections for Congress. That will prevent the hugely unpopular Republicans, today all Trump Nazis, from losing power.

It shouldn’t work; the US has had plenty of wartime elections, and the POTUS should not have that power, anyway. But US law means nothing to today’s Republicans or the Nazi, Donald John Trump.

Trump will decree the midterms cancelled; blue states will tell him to fuck off, while red states will agree. Half the country won’t even prepare their polling places. The whole mess will go to SCOTUS, and in flagrant disagreement with the US Constitution that they’re sworn to uphold, they will side with Trump. The midterms will be cancelled. The 2028 POTUS election will similarly be cancelled. The Republicans will remain in power without the support of the majority of the US population, and Trump will be a full-fledged dictator and POTUS for life, free from prosecution for his numerous crimes.

Trump is the most powerful and successful criminal in US history, and his iron-fisted reign of terror continues because the Biden Administration was too feckless to bring him to justice when they could. If Trump wasn’t POTUS, today he would be in jail or house arrest, and barred from further participation in US politics because of his J6 insurrection. But he is POTUS, and he’s all too happy to abuse that power to the fullest to remain a free and happy Nazi.

  • When I first started Silksong and noticed my Silk upgrades were gone after death, I first thought they were gone for good. I thought a particular monster had eaten them, sort of like one of the bosses in Demon’s Souls, who can steal your character levels (or so I read, I never got to him).

Thank goodness Team Cherry at least held back here! You get them back when you find and smash the cocoon at your point of death.

And +1 for runbacks, also hair-pulling in Silksong. I never thought I’d be able to get through Bilewater.

  • I was a pro game developer for 19 years, more or less. After my last job ended, I self-published an indie game. To this day, it’s not made enough money to trigger a single payout. I failed. So it’s fair to take my advice with a grain of salt, if not a whole block. But here’s my two cents anyway.

Start by sketching and writing. Think of verbs; games are all about doing things, even if it’s just advancing through a conversation. Your protagonist is a cat, so cats run, jump, explore, play. Think of why the protagonist is doing things. Where do the missions come from? And in this case it’s hard not to look at Stray. There’s almost always something that’s come before, even if it’s not super high-profile like Stray. Think about what you want to do different.

Art will come from you, if you go it alone and can’t or don’t want to buy art assets. Blender and GIMP are hard to learn, but free and powerful.

Your engine is almost certainly going to be Unreal, Unity, or Godot. Each has strengths and weaknesses, including the cost of use. You have to factor it all in.

I do think you’re right that you’ll learn more by making things than doing tutorials, but be aware if you start spinning your wheels on something. You’ll benefit from both.
