“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” Professor Faber

  • Currently reading Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O’Keefe. It was a little slowish to start, but the build up of the characters was important and it really takes off. I’m really enjoying this and kicking myself for not reading it sooner. Mid-book I said wtf out loud and my partner looked concerned before he realized it was because I was reading. Not the first time that’s happened, not going to be the last.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to read this week. I hope you get to soon 💚

  • I do see the similarities in the middle one. Probably a good idea because it is recognizable enough already.

I like the top middle because mohawk hair. I like the bottom middle because as a person from the US, I’ve known far too many white pride dillholes, so I love seeing them get stomped.

  • Whenever I see someone asking for book recommendations, I always seek out comments like yours or make one if I don’t find it.

His Dark Materials aka Northern Lights (Golden Compass in US) is a really good one. I was 12 when I read the first one. It’s such a good story and I remember anxiously waiting for the 2nd and 3rd books to be published. When my friends started reading HP #1, I was already 2 books deep into HDM and was fully engulfed in Lyra’s story. HDM is a superior series that I think all children should read.

I read it again as an adult and realized how much those books really shaped my world view. Philip Pullman is an amazing storyteller.

  • Yes! But usually only when I’m driving. It’s either NPR or a local alternative station out of TJ. The local station is one of the only places I have heard Social Distortion, MxPx, Green Day, and some new rock band. It’s pretty fucking great.

I have started carrying cds in my car again, too. I’ve found quite a few great albums for $1-3 at thrift stores (great for Blu-rays too) or ripping CDs I borrow from the library. I also have a small mp3 player loaded with a bunch of music I’ve ripped or downloaded.

And I have AppleMusic for anything else.

  • Does an admin assistant who mostly works in Microsoft Office products count? The most technical thing I do at work is more advanced calendaring. Although, sometimes I do assist my colleagues with basic tech support and I can follow instructions for a lot of things very well, including IKEA instructions.

Outside of work, I’m interested in techy stuff, but also fight laziness and pretty sunshine outside. I’ll get to setting up my NAS eventually.
