1·6 days agoI’m so sick of biopics, music ones most of all. I know that they receive all kinds of acclaim and people love those “greatest hits” soundtracks, but it just seems so reductive to tell an entire life story in 2 hours. The number of obligatory “fast forwards” across entire years of life take me right out of the action.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Stellantis Talks for Chinese EV Are a Bombshell for Canada’s Auto Sector
4·13 days agoBecause the Canadian government gives constant concessions to American car companies in exchange for their business. It’s… Not a good way of doing things. But the politicians who greenlight this sort of thing get rewarded by cushy private sector jobs once they retire from politics, so problem solved.

3·14 days agoOoooof, that 3rd Children of Time book actually was a bit flimsy. Added to the lore & mythos of the universe; and that’s about it.
I loved those first three Tyrant Philosophers books. Felt like he was channelling China Meiville’s Bas Lag novels; but doing a superior job of it.
I’ll check that out, I haven’t had much exposure to Turtledove

9·14 days agoSlow Gods, by Claire North. Quite decent so far, shades of the Culture novels but more political. Borrowed a bit from Adrian Tchaikovsky’s “Final Architecture” series in terms of how hyperspace works, but I guess he put his seal of approval on it since he’s endorsing it on the cover

This isn’t even a boondoggle yet. I mean, of course it’s going to go way over budget and be late, and of course it will eventually be a boondoggle, but you can’t slap that label on it until it is!
This is a sauce delivery system at peak efficiency.
It’s probably a diet issue. Maybe they need more Vitamin D? Exercise would prove beneficial. Therapy wouldn’t hurt but also wouldn’t particularly assist unless it would. Maybe they should try to develop some new and different hobbies to grow as a person. Have they considered eating a higher volume of legumes?
Is this loss?

Dehumanization is the point. The more people don’t stop to look at tragedies, the more they won’t question how such tragedies could have happened in the first place.
