  • Tommy 1/5 - It’s not at all clear how much of this is metaphor and literal. It’s wild that Tina Turner plays a literal sexual iron maiden but none of the huge swings seem to be in the same direction

The Bride 3/5 - Eh, I don’t know what caused all the Frankenstein stuff to be in the zeitgeist but this is pretty middling

Ready or Not 4/5 - Good horror with a competent female lead. Great ending too

Palm Springs 4.5/5 - Something about Groundhog Daying is just so compelling and this is one of the best versions of it. Interesting characters, a little philosophy, some good hyjinks, I’d highly recommend this

The Napa Boys 4/5 - This is an indie from a group of LA comedians and honestly it’s a little unapproachable. It’s parodying so many things simultaneously it gets hard to know who and what are the butts of the jokes. Still, I was laughing the whole time with 3 other people in my tiny theater and I mostly got the jokes

How to Make a Killing 2.5/5 - Hahahaha, fuck the rich… except the shittiest one who wins the whole thing? I don’t really understand what the message of this was supposed to be and frankly it didn’t make a ton of sense. I can’t decide if I like Glenn or not

Project Hail Mary 4.5/5 - Excellent, go see it on a huge screen. Andy Weir writes books to be made into movies and it works here. The movie is more emotional and less sciencey than both the novel and The Martian but it works

The Sting 4.5/5 - Pretty cleanly establishes the template for the grift. Robert Redford and Paul Newman’s beautiful eyes are the stars of this and it’s hard not to fall in love with those sleazeballs
