Der Brecher Knowing the previous record didn’t prepare me for this at all. First track sounds like a string driven Studio Ghibli Soundtrack with double bassdrum. Second one has more film noir vibes and it just goes on from there.
I love the instrumentation, I love the melodies, I love the cinematic feel of it all. If there’s one thing I dislike about it, it’s the fadeouts (especially in the last song). I prefer proper endings. Other than that: Outstanding.

Trumpets aflare, cries of moons and their thousandfold shards lashing in full swing, beneath that Celestial Body and Its barren Eye its glare, Denizens of a Dreamed Land, now ceasing to remain bare with that Downcast Light, peacefully await the next turning of Firmament’s Wheel. A welcoming, an Orientation, or how to position your soul in the renewed Gravity — a renewed Order — and stand firmly facing such hidden essence’s true form. Coiling, dissipating, intoxicated by suchIridescent Rite, by Its own Recurrence. Until an affinity once shared with other Feral Sentients, eons past, with an exuberance of colors known and unknown, return to our midst. Wheels on Firmament and its Order, across the chrysalis of aged Dream, reflecting a swarm of shadows traversing the crevasses of Seasons — you and us and all those are now seen again, should name the Newborn World with this Movement.

Long cast off from the confines of “DSBM” as a label, Deadtrees has been experimenting with various — and sometimes conflicting — modes of expression that border on the zeitgeist of this era, with East Asian aesthetics as the crux and only constant throughout. New World, his latest full-length, serves as a declaration, both thematically and compositionally. His 2025 full-length, 十万肉喇叭 | One Hundred Thousand Meat Horns, has been described by reviewers as Swans-esque, or Lynchian, due to the eccentric blending of ritual ambient, jazz, noise, Post-Rock, and Black Metal. With clear inspiration from the Japanese indie scene, elements of Post-rock and Shoegaze take over the typical BM structure, supported by exquisitely written saxophone and string sections, rendering a highly cinematic landscape of dreams and longing. Faded Summers, Vague Nostalgia, Sentiments unable and impossible to release from one’s chest — witnessing something of pure splendour take shape and engulfing yourself in the process — now fully instrumental, Deadtrees provides listeners with glimpses into emotions of such dreamy intimacy, successfully. For fans of: Heaven in Her Arms, Asunojokei, Vampillia, or any music glittering like tears of grace.
