“Spikes” is Damna's most leftfield release yet. Dubstep and Bass Music defined the artistic approach in which all the tracks have been thought of, but the specific dynamics shaping the EP came from the dig into a continuous structure for each individual tracks, keeping the pace, where the weirder elements aren’t the standouts of the tracks, but a support for the atmosphere and the steadiness that was emerging. This process led to 4 tracks, supported by two remixes from Enereph and Soa420.

1. Which One (5:54) :

“The opening track is also the most straightforward one : almost 5 minutes of drums and sub basses, started as a no-kick concept track, ended up being a good idea to re-introduce it. It insists on calls and responses between high end and low end rhythms as a way to keep the attention.”

2. Hold On (4:26) :

“Maybe the oddest one of the EP, the goal was to experiment on drums and weird placements for rhythms, at a higher BPM, while keeping a steady bassline.“

3. Projectile Projection (4:55) :

“The first track that was started, the goal was to explore slower tempo for deeper and larger sub bass spaces, resulting in lots of LFO manipulation and simple patterns defining drums.”

4. Spikes (4:31) :

“The title track of the EP, “Spikes”, encapsulates all the other ones : mixing the continuous flow of up and down sub basses with leftfield sound design and semi-steady rhythms, but this time in a more dubstep-ish way.”

6. Projectile Projection (Soa420 Remix) (4:10) :

“Both Enereph and Soa420 chose to remix “Projectile Projection”. The first remix dug deeper into the sound design and the atmosphere while the other one revisits the track completely and took the low end into another realm, tastefully concluding the EP.”
