Much more so if it’s left available for them near places you might not want them to be at.

Canada@lemmy.ca•NDP's Leah Gazan calls MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ critics 'bigots'
115·3 days agoIf they wanna sing the whole alphabet song remix every time this comes up, that’s on them but shitting on people who criticize the lack of a stable core idea that can be carried across conversations for years in a concise matter as bigots seems counterproductive not only for the people on the fence but also for those on either side of that argument.
The fact this comes from a representative of the only party that has some hope to unfuck things around here makes it so much worse imo.
Yeah. Wasn’t a storm, just cloudy.
After reading a bit about it, it seems low level cumulus clouds will clear due to the shifting weather, due to the onset of colder climate of the sun being partially blocked, those clouds clear out and basically vanish by the time the solar eclipse starts.
Won’t work on storms or such, but if it’s just cloudy, by the time the eclipse is in full force, you get a clean view.
There’s an interesting phenomena that happens when there’s a solar eclipse, the clouds clear out shortly before the eclipse begins.
Not sure if it’s consistent or why that happens at all, but that was my experience with it during the last eclipse.

Which is still convoluted considering the McGill campus is both an educational facility and a hospital so which way does that lean…?

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•@ casualconversation l've always known that time is an artificial construct ever since I was told to sit down to studyEnglish
5·9 days agoI don’t think I agree with “time” being an artificial construct…. Hours, minutes and whatnot… sure. But “time” itself passes regardless of us attributing any sort of label or measurement to it.
Clocks are definitely artificial constructs meant to represent that idea.
I feel calendars are much more arbitrary though, many existed before, many exist today, many will exist in the future. Not only can they be used to represent anything in any direction, cosmic, imaginary or perceived, but they can start and end at any point you’d want them to, represented in a medium and interpretation of your choice.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Could ChatGPT or some other AI agent ever be called to the stand to testify in a court of law as a "witness"?
5·12 days agoAn exercise in futility.
The more you “grill it” or more specifically pigeonhole it to the narrative you want to see, the more likely it is to spit it at you sooner or later.
Same thing happens when you push these text generators to convince you that the earth is flat or that taking a hit of heroin to take the edge off is something you should be doing.
Only thing it’s useful for is logs like originally stated, any sort of interaction will result in statistically plausible bullshit, not actual evidence.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come if my dog is sick and I take him to get put out of his misery its ok? On a human its not? How come human laws don't apply to animals? I think of our dog as family and he's one of us?
11·12 days agoAppreciate the kind words. I have had various approaches to try and “treat” this over the course of the last 15+ years, including the ones you named, like I mentioned, not exactly a new phenomena on my end.
If there was a suicide booth or a euthanasia clinic for people who just want to peace out, I’d have visited it 15+ years ago or any day since then, including today.
Also while I understand the notion that access to substances and firearms and whatnot might increase the risks of impulsive momentary courage (or stupidity), an average home and convenience store offer many items which can effectively facilitate the deed, don’t need to be super elaborate with hugging a grenade or slobbering on the barrel of a shotgun for an effective method… granted if the plan is to go out with a bang, who am I to stop it.
Sucks about the tumor though. May you easily outlive the expectations if you so desire

5·13 days agoI can see where you’re potentially coming from.
But I don’t think you comprehend how violent an act of suicide is in almost all cases.
It takes an insane level of commitment to go through with that the first time, more so for the subsequent attempts.
Also of the people who really aim to end it, succeed on the first try.
I don’t know about you, but if given the choice, I probably wouldn’t be here. There’s nothing particularly wrong with me physically, I just don’t want to be here.
Been the case over a decade ago. Pretty much back as long as I can remember. Still the case today.
I do agree with the point that a humane way out will probably have a net positive impact in almost all cases. Especially if it comes with “here’s a list of things you should consider doing to lessen the impact on your family and significant other” or something of the sort. Needless to say, but should be entirely optional.
I don’t think I agree with the “other treatments” mentality though. That just sounds like what the Americans are doing with their abortion clinics trying to emotionally blackmail people into not aborting their child by forcing you to listen to heartbeats and look at ultrasounds.
