Yes but also no. There are people (like presumably lennybird) that think supporting a candidate means you aren’t allowed to criticize them. For instance back when everyone was criticizing Harris for sticking with Israel there were a bunch of people attacking those people saying that they need to STFU because Trump was worse. Harris was a terrible candidate, she was just better than Trump (by a lot) or Biden (marginally). The unfortunate reality of the US political system as it exists today is that you don’t vote for a candidate, you vote against the other one, because both the Democrats and the Republicans suck, it’s just a question of degree.

So yes, I voted for Harris because she was the least bad option between the two viable candidates, but I sure as hell complained about her and Trump every chance I got. Just once it would be really refreshing to see the DNC run a candidate that I actually want to vote for instead of making me vote against the Republican.

I would add to that list banning at a federal level first past the post elections for any partisan election. That’s just as important as overturning Citizens United. We need to break out of this cycle of constantly being forced into voting against a candidate instead of for one because it allows them to keep ratcheting policy ever rightward.

I’ll vote Democrat but I won’t support them if they don’t do anything to deserve my support. Half the blame for the last loss is on the non and 3rd party voters (and the Republican voters of course) but the other half of the blame lands squarely on Harris and the DNC. When your own voters are screaming at you to take a position on something, and you take the opposite position it’s little surprise that you lose even if you’re “the lesser evil”. Continuing to run as diet Republicans is not a winning strategy as the last election demonstrated.

The one bit of good news going into the midterms and looking ahead to the next election is that there have been a number of actual progressive Democrat wins recently despite massive campaigns by both Republicans and old guard Democrats to smear them so there’s some hope that we won’t see a Harris or Biden 2.0 in the next couple elections. When the DNC gets out of its own way and lets popular candidates run on actually progressive campaigns they win. When they either refuse to take a stance or worse take the same stance as Republicans in order to not upset the billionaires and corporate donors they lose. You can blame the voters all you want, but the DNC is just as much at fault for failing to win those voters as the ones that sit out the elections in disgust.

No, the rest of the world isn’t just going to instantly nuke the US. If Iran gets nuked it won’t be via an ICBM but more likely a traditional aircraft or possibly ship launched nuke. Until it goes off it won’t look too much different from any of the other weapons being dropped on Iran. What it would do though is instantly turn the US into even more of a pariah than it already is. You’d likely see pretty much instant sanctions across the board which would tank the US economy, and might finally manage to get Trump impeached and convicted. Might even be able to convince the spineless bastards in Washington to hand Trump over to the ICC in exchange for lifting some of the sanctions.

You can pretty much always assume that’s the case with the US legal system. The lawyers always win, sometimes their clients do as well but that’s a lot rarer.

It was good for its time, but we need to be careful not to confuse that as an absolute statement rather than a relative one. By modern standards VHS is garbage with many significant problems, it’s just at its time everything else was worse. There were certainly many aspects of VHS that were good some even revolutionary, but it also had many significant flaws.

The biggest problem with DVD in the early days was just price. Early DVD players were ridiculously expensive compared to VHS, and the DVDs themselves were also significantly more expensive than VHS tapes. That of course changed over time, as DVD adoption drove the unit prices down across the board. By the time Bluray came around and began to drive out DVD the players had gotten so cheap you could sometimes find them for as little as $25, and DVD movies would regularly show up in discount bins for $5 to $10.

Are you trying to defend DHS? You do realize it was created by Republicans right? George W. Bush created it taking advantage of the panic following 9/11. It’s an entirely redundant organization whose function can be met by the existing institutions that were doing the various jobs prior to it being formed. ALL of the legislation that was passed as a result of 9/11 needs to be repealed, and that includes the creation of the DHS.

Of course, it lies confidently and tells them things they want to hear which are two of the most important things Republicans look for in their leaders.

They should just take the money out of the employee’s paychecks when they finally get around to paying them again. Considering how much backpay they owe them by this point it should easily cover $1000 each. Much as I hate the TSA and think it should be abolished as yet another failed Bush era policy forcing TSA employees to work without pay is horrible, and denying them even this meager amount of charity is even worse.

I don’t understand what you’re so upset about here. I’m well aware of what the DHS and TSA are, I’m older than both and remember how flying used to be before the TSA came in and screwed it all up. What makes you think I don’t know what the TSA is?

I’m not quite sure what the attitude is for, I don’t disagree with anything you said. Whether it’s all of DHS or just TSA, either way there’s no point in it existing.
