  • IDE in general are not that good.

VSCode has a lot of of expansions, enabling a developer to stay in the same environment for any language they code in.

So if you have a multi-language setup, you can do everything in the same IDE.

I work with embedded firmware, and let me tell you that VSCode is miles ahead from manufacturer tools.

I personally don’t use VSCode because microcontroller manufacturer tools usually come with a repeatable easy to install environment, so I can easily handoff the projects to my clients.

But if you ship code and don’t have to ship the environment, VSCode is a good allrounder that can do pretty much anything.

With that said, use VSCodium instead. At least, it removes the analytics from the IDE.

  • The negative effects of social medias as they are today is plenty documented.

It is harmful for literally everyone. But big tech made it so that they integrated themselves in pretty much everything.

Lots of organizations use Facebook groups to vehiculate important information, that won’t be elsewhere.

This bullshit law is lazy and a way to bullshit people when politicians are pressed about what they are doing to curb social medias created societal issues.

Yes, parents are responsible for what their kids are watching, but it is extremely hard to avoid social medias because they were closely integrated into our everyday life.

  • Edit: i found the video

A rant on personal engineering projects by BPS.shorts

I’ll try to find a video I saw on the matter that is interesting about our projects.

Most of us learn engineering through school and through work, where the is a product owner and a project manager that gives us work in chunks and manage the project week to week.

When you do personal projects that you can’t finish in a day, you have to be product owner, project manager and engineer at the same time. And it is hard, especially if we hope to produce the same quality of work.

So either it takes a lot more time to get there, or you need to “downgrade” the quality of the work to finish the project in a timely manner.

And in the end, projects in your free time should bring you joy, not dread.

I hope it helps you, or someone reading this, cope with a pile of unfinished projects, that will never be finished. And that’s fine.

  • Even if median inflation-adjusted is trending up, the cost of living is far outpacing any gain made.

The housing market is as it is because every successive government hot potatoed the issue to the next government. REIT are swallowing a good portion of new and old housing to profit from it.

The Real Estate is number one contributor to the GDP, to the detriment of the population. So no politician of this world will touch that, so we’re screwed.

The housing trend is going down because contractors are building real estate for speculator, which charge maximum rent for a 1bd, 500 square feet of space. People can’t afford that and families can’t live in them. Yeah, no shit people don’t want a 500 sqf loft in bumfuck nowhere for 1500 a month.

The federal government and provincial government could give grants and loans to smaller companies instead of giving millions and billions to mega corpos that pockets and buy back shares, contributing nothing to the economy. If you give 1 million to 10 small companies and one or two expand and becomes bigger, it will be way more profitable than giving 10 millions to a corporation that will layoff employees the next quarter because they didn’t reach a number they imagined they would.

The federal and provincials governments have a lot of weight to throw around, but it always ends up lining pockets of friends of the government and mega corpos.

There is no tangible actions taken and measures put in place to change the trajectory we’re going in. Nothing will change and we will continue to be subject to the same old system because money is king and the pleb does not have the sway needed to change that.

Moral of the story : rising median trendline doesn’t mean jack shit if more and more people are are poorer, despite the median rising.
