I, for one, still believe Stamets and Violet are the same person. Have you ever seen them in the same room together at the same time?? Checkmate!

261·2 months agoWow I see this post exactly one day after spending 4 hours tearing my hair out trying to connect a switch pro controller using blueman only to find out that I apparently have to use bluetoothctl because blueman can’t for some reason.
Anyone run into this problem?

131·3 months agobut you also have plenty of people who join the military because it’s their ticket to a little money and an education
In addition to that, kids are constantly surrounded by pro-military propaganda. My veteran friend once quipped “I thought I was going to fight dragons. All I got was this traumatic brain injury”

While I agree with the general sentiment, scripting languages are perfectly fine to use for server software. Would you call hackernews slow? Its been running on lisp (originally Arc, now common lisp) for its entire existence. Another fun example of popular interpreter is, y’know, the JVM.

215·5 months agoThe post you copy/pastes has an AI-generated after taste, which makes me sad. Either people are changing their writing style to “compete” with AI or… I dunno. I feel like I can never just read something and not be suspicious. Bummer

- We have already seen multiple instances of law enforcement misusing technology (Flock, for example) with or without a warrent. Before these technologies, it was a lot less convenient to do this.
- It is illegal to open someone else’s mail without permission. I think this is the case in a lot of places? We don’t have a similar digital concept (probably because the post office is a government service and digital stuff is corporate).
- Before this technological era, if the police wanted to wiretap someone or follow them, they wouldn’t immediately have access to every single thing theyve said or done before that point in time. I think that is also quite important if we’re comparing/contrasting
