Waydev Core 4

Waydev CORE 4 is available on the platform's launch page.

What is Waydev Core 4

Waydev Core 4 builds on the DX Core 4™ framework, created by Nicole Forsgren and the DX research team, unifying decades of research across DORA, SPACE, and DevEx into a single model for measuring engineering productivity.

It helps engineering leaders understand how effectively their teams deliver value, maintain quality, and create business impact. The framework organizes insights into four dimensions:

  • Effectiveness - How consistently code changes undergo review, showing collaboration and quality discipline.
  • Speed - How fast work moves from commit to production, reflecting efficiency in delivery.
  • Quality - How often deployments fail or require fixes, indicating process reliability.
  • Impact - How much new, value-creating work teams produce versus maintenance or rework.

By combining system data with contextual analysis, Waydev Core 4 provides actionable insights that balance speed, stability, and innovation. It empowers leaders to make informed decisions and enables teams to continuously improve engineering effectiveness.

Metrics explained

  • Speed: Cycle Time- (or Lead Time for Changes) measures how long it takes for code to go from the first commit until that change is successfully running in production. It reflects how quickly and efficiently your team can turn ideas into shipped value, with shorter lead times indicating a smoother, higher-performing delivery pipeline.
  • Effectiveness: PR Review Coverage (%) - PR Review Coverage (%) is the percentage of pull requests in a given period that received at least one code review before being merged or closed. It reflects how consistently your team applies code reviews, indicating the health of collaboration and the likelihood of unreviewed changes reaching the main codebase.
  • Quality: Change Failure Rate (%) - Change Failure Rate (CFR) is the percentage of deployments to production that result in failures or incidents that require remediation, such as rollbacks, hotfixes, or emergency patches.
  • Impact: Code Volume of New Work (%) - New Work (%) is the percentage of all changed lines of code that are truly new additions to the codebase, rather than modifications, rewrites, or help on existing code. It shows how much of your team’s effort is going into building new features versus refactoring, maintenance, or reworking code.

Industry Percentile Benchmarks

Industry P50 (Median Performance)

Represents the 50th percentile of the industry. Teams at this level perform on par with the average organization across Waydev Core 4 metrics. Ideal for establishing a reliable baseline.

Industry P75 (Top-Quartile Performance)

Represents the 75th percentile. Teams here outperform three-quarters of all organizations, demonstrating high maturity, velocity, and collaboration.

Industry P90 (Elite Performance)

Represents the 90th percentile. These are top-performing engineering teams globally, combining exceptional speed, quality, and effectiveness with strong engineering effectiveness practices.

How to use

Select the Group (Project, Workspace, or Initiative) for which the metrics should be displayed.

The filters allow changing the view between Industry P50, P75 and P90 to compare the internal averages to industry averages for benchmarking.

Select any time period that is of interest from the date picker.

And select all or any of the teams included in the group.
