If someone ever asks you if you would like to see a Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic, Finnish or Russian comedy then…well, I won’t say “Run for your life!!” but I will say “Be careful”.
Movies in the north loves to deal with serious issues like death, drugs, alcohol and other fun stuff, and even most of our comedies will leave you with a feeling that the world is a horrible place.
You think I’m exaggerating? Fine, but don’t say I didn’t warn you when you sit in the dark, crying.
A nice example is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE4ZBcK01HU It’s considered one of the funniest scenes in the movie. He doesn’t like that the cow is looking at him. And punching woman is funny too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2WrE7SKmK4

Yeah, the Serbian film is much funnier. Helpfully named ‘A Serbian Film’, easy to find.
I hold against it Du levande which, on one hand, confirms OP’s stereotyping, but is - at least to me - uniquely humorous, emotional, and an alround great film.

That does explain Norsemen being the way it is. Highly recommended btw. It pulls zero punches, but because it is so ridiculous, it’s hard to take it seriously.
I watched a Danish (I think) movie on an airplane once called “Land of Mine” once. It was about 10-12 years ago. I can still see it.
Probably not a comedy, but oof.
Under sandet in Danish, I had a teacher who owned a willys jeep and was into reenactment be in that film, his willys was also used, I remember him being very happy about it when it was being filmed lol.
Before Hannibal I knew Mads Mikkelsen from this super funny movie where his best friend constantly physically abuses him and he kills people and sells their meat as chicken in their butcher shop.
apparently he debuted his career by being abused on screen. this one is from 2005 ☞ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam's_Apples
probably one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen
What’s the films name?
I know the German translation is “Dänische Delikatessen” which translates to “Danish Delicacies”, but googling tells me the english title is “The Green Butchers”, which I think is the original title translated
De grønne slagtere from 2003.
Other than the Scandinavian part, this could be about “Funny People.” The most depressing “comedy” I have ever seen.
Or “Funny Games”. I was not ready for that one.
Have you seen the English-language remake? It’s quite a bit better.
holy fuck the resolution to the cow thing had me in stitches.
second link’s account is “terminated”
I just copy the description from the actual sauce.
