Hello fellow randonneurs!
I’m looking for advice as I’m due to cycle PBP later this month, and the weather doesn’t look so promising.
So I started using wax (squirt lube, though I intend to try solide wax in the future) instead of lube on my different bikes since approximatively a year and an half. I’ve been very happy with the performance and the cleanliness, and was lucky enough to not have to ride much under the train.
However, last week, I did a 150km race in the wet. It never went dry and I had not any chance to reapply any was on the go. At the end, of course, the chain was totally washed off. Bad for the chain, bad for the performance and ride feel. I have no problem reapplying wax every 200km in the dry, but if the drive train is full of water, there’s no point, right?
So I am now wondering, if it were to be good chances of rain for PBP, should I better go back to wet lube? Are there some things that I could do better with waxing?
I’m curious to know what you use and if you have good advice. I’ve been looking at zero friction, but can’t make my mind about what’s the best for a very long ride in the wet.
Thanks in advance!
