  • I don’t think there’s a whole lot going on right now and I don’t think we’ll have another great decade of cartoons unfortunately.

Adventures Time and the new Avatar show are just continuations of shows spawned in the 2000’s. I can almost guarantee that the new Avatar show will not be good. Steven Universe another existing IP. Lowe Decks is great but has been cancelled.

Even if you counted all of these cartoons as new, fresh, and greats, they pale in comparison to that 98-2010 run with literally dozens of new and iconic shows. Kinda seems like the era of cartoons is coming to a close. With these last vestiges just milking what nostalgia there is left.

  • I am no fan of reddit but in this case Reddit appears to have championed this users anonymity going so far as to actively draw the ire of the administration.

    • Reddit refused to comply with the initial administrative subpoena
    • the Federal government came back with this grand jury subpoena and warned Reddit not to disclose the existence of the subpoena or they’d consider it interference in federal law enforcement
    • Reddit complied with this new legally binding subpoena, but did not comply with the demand to keep it a secret. In the contrary, they immediately alerted the user of the subpoena which allowed him time to immediately lawyer up.

You’re not wrong that you’re not safe posting on Reddit, but if this case is any indication you’re not any less safe posting in Reddit than any other site, including Lemmy.

For geographical purposes he’s still wrong. If you’re Canadian you were taught the 7-continent model in school growing up. There is no “American” continent.

That fella is using a primitive and culturally reductive unified America continent model which does not apply to the people who live here.

You just heard it from a Canadian, but also the US has not appropriated the name of entire continents for itself. The continent it shares with Canada and Mexico is “North America” and “North American” still applies to people from those countries. The US hasn’t taken anything away from anyone else in this naming scheme, and nobody who actually lives here will get confused by these terms and who they apply to.

The “critique” is a non-issue pushed mainly by uppity Europeans that nobody in this side of the pond cares about at all.

You spent half a day trying to convince people from a region that you know more about the place they live and the terms they use than they do, even though you live across an ocean. Then you cry because several people from that region educate you.

I have been very patient with you and explained this to you in great detail without insulting you, often having to repeat myself and explain things to you in simple terms like a child, but you insist on being a culturally and geographically ignorant halfwit.

All the evidence I can find shows that most of the Portuguese use the correct terms (American) most widely. One single news article is not proof to the contrary. Anyone who uses the term “North-American” in your country is a drooling idiot. I don’t want to believe your country is full of drooling idiots. If you want to convince me of that, I won’t argue.

I’m trying to give your country the benefit of the doubt. Every source I can find says that most Portuguese use the correct Americano/Americana terms. If you insist that your country is full of the willfully ignorant, I will not argue it.

So for you, American means only someone from the US

Not for me, for the majority of the world. American has been used to refer to people from the United States of America for nearly 300 years. To be upset about that now is just asinine.

but we can’t mention someone from the US as north-american

You can, but it does not refer to United States citizens only. It refers to everybody in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and technically speaking almost two dozen other countries and states. You need to understand the difference, this is not a difficult concept.

I just said America is a geographic place that you are trying to prove it doesn’t exist

“America” is a short name for The United States of America. It is the only country on the continent with “America” in the name. Which is also why United States Citizens are known across the world as “Americans”. It is distinct to them because it’s part of the name of their country. It is not an actual geographic place.

The United States of America is a country, which is located on the continent called North America. There is no such place as just “America” here. In most English speaking countries, or around the world. The small fraction of foreign countries who have a crude and primitive understanding of North American geography are really not a factor. Imagine if everybody in North America got together and decided the demonym for the Portuguese was “Peepee poo poo people”. Would that make it so for the Portuguese just because a bunch of us on a faraway continent decided it was? Probably not, I’d imagine you’d still consider yourselves Portuguese.
