Yeah that’s a fair point—I feel like you could manage this incident with a police helicopter or something. Maybe NORAD was just bored and itching for an excuse to scramble…

Yeah for sure. It’s a cynical act, but like you say it’s not like congress is going to actually do something good or useful at this point hehe.

It’s likely not meant to pass. It’s to make them visibly reject the same requirements they casually sign off on for others, to highlight their hypocrisy. Same reason they did a house bill to release the Epstein files, when they vote no it looks bad, etc.

It’s a bit more complicated than that I think. It was a NORAD response and that has a fair amount of integration between US and Canada. The base the American jets flew from has Canadian air force pilots stationed there—and is a western norad air defense post, so likely they are closest responding, and the Canadian hornets were coming from farther out (possibly Alberta?). But operationally the request came from a NORAD division in Canada, so it wasn’t like the US Air Force deciding to unilaterally violate Canadas sovereignty over a rogue Cessna. More like joint operation under mutual defense treaty kind of stuff like you’d get with NATO countries.
I don’t fully understand exactly how it all works but back in the pandemic a us F-22 shot down a spy ballon in Canada also I think, run via NORAD also. Canada maintains a lot of the northern radar and early warning stuff that NORAD uses as well.
Anyhow I wouldn’t blame Canadians for not being thrilled about American military assets zipping around overhead right now, just saying it’s not specifically remarkable as the article headline seems to suggest.

That’s a mistake.

Have no idea if the pic is from China, but during a trip there, I saw people growing vegetables in the most incredible ways, lots of apartments with plastic bucket gardens and such. My favorite was this hutong courtyard building where we did a cooking class as a tourist thing—the courtyard had a trellis over it for sun blocking, but the trellis was grown out by a bunch of different types of squash—such a neat combo because the squash leaves were great at max blocking direct sun, and there were all these perfectly spherical squash hanging overhead. The cook grabbed one off a vine during the class for the recipe we were making. Have wanted to try that method ever since.

Let’s be clear though—two destroyers ain’t waging war with Iran. They’re most likely moving these closer so that, once again, if/when Iran retaliates for this unprovoked attack by Israel, they can help shield Israel from incoming missiles and drones.

For sure, and alternatively, if you a person who does crimes, particularly if you do crimes with friends while armed, you should clearly just get balaclavas, plate carriers and an ICE Velcro patch, since no one is allowed to resist you or ask your identity.
“But Officer! There aren’t any immigrants working in this bank, I’d know, because I’m the manager!”
“Uh huh, I’ll believe it when I see it, and I bet your woke ass is hiding them in the vault: open it right now and return to your office if you don’t want an all expenses paid trip to El Salvador, one way. If you don’t find that motivating, I also have flashbangs, if you catch my meaning”
This should be tagged for a year-end best-of retrospective post. An excellent specimen of the form.
I mean the guys already making this joke himself right? So you’re just laughing along with him. Unless you made the T-shirt text for the meme, and even still, he’d probably chuckle at it if that were the case.

Customers aren’t engaging in the market enough for your tastes? Make them the market!

Yeah was worried this was the case. Seems insane though that they can make that decision and then force the family to take liability for the cost. Hopefully they will have some sort of recourse—I don’t know exactly but I’m pretty sure long term life support ain’t cheap.

So this is horrible and stupid. But also, who pays for this? Does the family get forced to eat millions in ICU bills? Does the hospital just eat it? Does it get covered by Medicare, which they’re actively trying to erase?

Yeah I thought they did a great job on that one, hoping they make a season 2.

The limbo from the movie “wristcutters”

Yes, absolutely. His most recent books, the peripheral and agency, have a very plausible outcome—ultra rich living supported by automation after 60-80% of the less fortunate perish over 30 Years in a series of rolling catastrophes they affectionately refer to as “the great jackpot”.
That was a joke—was trying to make fun of hegseth, he’s been talking in that vein lately, and apparently military have been told across branches that they’re fighting for Jesus and Armageddon, which must be coming directly from him.
