Yesterday. I was telling my boss about how my husband abruptly and with finality brought up divorce in the midst of asking for a raise. Didn’t expect to cry but it happened. She was super supportive 🙂

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Y'all ever have intrusive thoughts about accidentally dropping stuff in storm drains? (particulary when you have your phone out) And like if that happens, wtf is someone supposed to do?
3·6 days agoYep. Nowadays it’s mostly storm drains but it’s happened with pool drains and jumping off high places. I hold my keys tightly when going to check the mailbox. 🫠

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do some people with college degrees and an education, still act so fucking stupid?
13·15 days agoEducation has no bearing on intellect. Or appropriate life experience.
Also, when people say someone is stupid, crazy, etc, it’s because they don’t understand that person’s perspective.
“Ummmm…can I help you?”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•(Roughly) how old are you and how did you come to be on Lemmy?
4·1 month agoLate 30s. Looked for Reddit alternatives after they tried to kill 3rd party apps. Landed on Beehaw first, then found Lemmy through Jerboa since you can use both of them through that app.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What kind of car do you drive, and what kind do you wish you did?
1·1 month ago2016 Camry. Love it, zero complaints. Car I wish I had? Slightly newer model as they look super nice but holding out to see how that generation fares with reliability. Otherwise I’ll drive this one til the wheels fall off.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I'd like to ask everyone, which movie have you rewatched more than three times?
2·1 month agoTropic Thunder The Nightmare Before Christmas Hocus Pocus Dr. Doolittle Does Titanic count if I watched it for Leonardo DiCaprio reasons? 😂
I watch TNBC every year, usually for Halloween and Christmas. Used to watch Hocus Pocus for the same reason.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How did you meet your significant person?
1·2 months ago😂 Yes, we did (also saw the second one). We both enjoyed it.
The rough thing with me is I’m neither a morning nor a night person so 6am is too early, 10pm is too late 🫠

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What are you playing on your Deck? - March 2026
10·2 months agoSteamworld Build. Didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do but I’m on my 4th play through (you unlock a special building each time) and am still enjoying it. Wonderful little gem of a game.
While on a road trip if it’s raining hard or the weather is otherwise bad, I have to turn my music down or off so I can see better.
I cackled the first time I read about something like that but now I’m that person 🫠
Also had an 8:30 bedtime for at least 10 years. I’ll be 40 next year.
Parents had a 1995 Pontiac Transport and a 2001(?) Oldsmobile Silhouette. Hated driving vans.
Learning to drive sounds lovely in your country if you get to pick your car from a selection! (I’m from the US).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How did you meet your significant person?
9·2 months agoMet my husband at a church we used to go to (I’ve since denounced religion). He asked if I wanted to see A Quiet Place. Agreed. Ended up being a double date with another couple who didn’t want to see A Quiet Place so we saw Rampage instead. Absolutely fucking horrible movie. But he and I never stopped texting after that and did a subsequent date a couple weeks later. 5th wedding anniversary is Sunday 🙂

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it ethical to use mild shock collars on autistic children because many health and educational institutions do that too?
2·2 months agoSo this is completely different from using shock collars and such. ECT COULD have benefits and from what I understand, people use it as a last resort and some have found relief (severe, persistent depression comes to mind). Is it ethical? I think ECT would be more ethical than a shock collar.
I think a shock collar would result in the person being more compliant without knowing why what they did (or didn’t do) was wrong. This is generally the case with any form of physical punishment. It doesn’t teach emotional/self regulation, it just teaches someone to do what is necessary to avoid being hurt.
Yes, QWERTY. My dad made my brother and I use Mavis Beacon as kids (SHOUT OUT TO MAVIS BEACON!!!) and I had keyboarding class in middle school. WPM is 70 to 80 depending on what I’m typing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats a good hobby to get into, as someones whos home alot with a laptop?
2·2 months agoThanks for mentioning Zooniverse! I signed up today up and contributed to a couple projects.
Wanted to be a veterinarian. Worked in a vet clinic in high school as…a person who cleaned shit and hated it, decided that field wasn’t for me 😂
Next decided to pursue management, not sure why because I never wanted to manage people. Settled on becoming a licensed professional counselor after receiving counseling myself. Love my job but REALLY over this whole “working” thing.

LOVE Steamworld games! I’ve played them all except the first Dig and the card-based one.
