3·3 months agoMacron is very unpopular in France. A poll by a reputable institute published today gives him an 18% approval rating, compared to 79% disapproval.
At the moment, everyone is waiting for him to leave (2027). The left hates him because of his authoritarian policies, which are geared solely towards the wealthiest. The right wants his job so it can do more or less the same thing. The far right has never been so close to power and is biding its time, ready to do the same but with even greater brutality and racism.
His presidency has seen two huge social movements: the yellow vests (quasi-insurrectionary for purchasing power) and the pension reform, with the population overwhelmingly supporting the unions (and in the end Macron getting his bill passed without a vote in parliament).
Under his presidency, the police have also become much more violent: using weapons considered to be weapons of war, techniques for surrounding demonstrators, labeling opponents as terrorists in order to use anti-terrorism measures (particularly ecologist opponents).
It would take forever to list all of his empty or misleading speeches, but here are a few examples.
He declared that violence against women would be a “major national cause.” He did nothing about it, not a single law, not a penny spent on it. But he appointed ministers who had already been accused of rape. Also a few weeks ago, his wife was recorded calling feminists “sale connes” (fucking bitches).
He promised a consultation on ecology, and he got randomly selected citizens and experts to work on it. This group was supposed to make recommendations that would be written into law. In the end, Macron didn’t take any of the working group’s proposals. On the contrary, he keeps making laws for intensive agriculture.
He was elected thanks to votes from the left to block the far-right candidate. He promised he would fight against her racist ideas. All he has done is play into the hands of the far right by impoverishing the country, telling the same anti-immigration bullshit, and designating the left as the political enemy to be defeated.
He made abortion legal under the Constitution (it was already legal, but not as a constitutional principle)… But under wording that definitively excludes trans men, and that could one day be used to say that trans women are not women.
And I could continue over and over.
Something you should know about Macron: the more seriously he takes an issue, the less he does about it.
And also, sometimes he pretends to take an issue seriously so he can make the situation worse without appearing to be responsible.
Right now, he’s probably packing his golf clubs.
1·3 months agoNah, everyone owning their own car is just the fucking norm. What’s cool is buying a new car. Often, and brand new.
When an economic system encourages you to constantly replace the same product, the concept of ownership becomes a little blurred. I mean, if you spend part of your budget on it every month for your entire life, it’s not much different from renting.

For a new user, the internal differences will be imperceptible, the same applications will be available, and community support will be there.
If you can, install Virtual Box on your current operating system and test the distributions you are considering to see if there is one whose default interface you like best.

In France, it’s a bit more complicated.
According to the law anything implying money with a sex worker can be considered as pimping (which is obviously a criminal offense). You have a friend who is sex worker and they buy you a drink ? You’re a pimp. You’re a sex worker and you want to rent a flat? That’s gonna be hard, because your landlord could be considered as a pimp.
Even banks refuse to open accounts to sex workers. A french porn actress (Khalamite) is an activist on the subject and made a YT video about that a few time ago.
