It is also not really a reference that is widely known outside of the US (or North America).

News@lemmy.world•Why this disillusioned Trump voter spends hours searching Epstein filesEnglish
122·13 hours agoI’m not so sure he has changed that much.
McBride says some of his friends now question whether they will vote again.
As for him, his decision is clear. “It won’t stop me voting, but I am definitely not voting for anybody implicated by the Epstein files,” he says. “Or anybody that is sponsored by President Trump.”
He is definitely still going to vote Republican.
Russia’s share of EU imports of pipeline gas dropped from around 40% in 2021 to around 6% in 2025.
In January 2026, the Council adopted a regulation to prohibit both LNG and pipeline gas imports from Russia starting from 18 March 2026, with transition periods for existing contracts. By the end of 2027, all Russian gas imports will be prohibited.
I don’t think I’m American enough to understand what this means.

62·2 days agoChildhood nostalgia I guess.
I am too old to have any for this series, but still even if I did, I don’t understand why you can’t drop it. I realise plenty of the things I liked in my childhood was commercialised nonsense, and I have no desire to keep revisiting it.

411·3 days agoThe point is Trump will never do anything that isn’t for deeply personal reasons. And he would never do anything solely to save money on the budget, he doesn’t care about that at all. So either he does this out of pure spite, because it is a “liberal” thing, or more likely he does it because he has been bribed by whatever industries are eager to turn all that forest into shortsighted profit.

It does seem like the “drink more water” propaganda which has gripped the US for many years now, has been an extremely succesful campaign for getting more Americans to lessen their sugary drink intake in favour of water. That is objectively a good thing.
The downside is all the Americans preaching to everyone else in the world on the internet about it, even though most of us already didn’t drink excessive amounts of sugary drinks.
Welcome to the afterlife. Here is your white beard and wig and wings. Now if you will please move to that extremely crowded spot over there with the big hole in the middle and look worried with the rest of them. Have fun for eternity.

375·4 days agoI don’t understand the need for those. My smart tv is functioning exactly as a computer monitor. It is connected via a display connection to my computer, and nothing else. It does show a brief warning that it is unconnected to the internet whenever I turn it on, but it disappears after 10 seconds or so.
Seems more like it is the opposite way around. European leaders are still clinging on to some sort of illusion that the old alliance still exists (while hopefully scrambling to find an exit behind the scenes), while Trump is doing nothing but shitting on us on every public occasion he gets.
More like “criminally insane”, because as already been pointed out, US presidents dabbling in a bit of criminality has not been uncommon at all. He is probably the only extremely low intelligence pathologically narcissistic president though.
Even Bush jr. was a literaly genius compared to Trump, and, despite at lot of attempts at retconning him as a smart man these days, he was in fact not very intelligent.
“I’m just asking questions!”, the tankie says.

It is also existential for the rest of us. Will they create a dystopian global AI surveillance network? Will accelerate global warming? Will they cause rising costs of essential electronics? (rhetorical questions)
