Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Americans, what's the plan if Trump wins the election in November? (serious)
104·2 years agoI’m a govt. contractor. I will retire the day before he’s swarn in. I’m not sure what I’ll do beyond that. A lot of Americans already retire to Costa Rica or Panama. I’ll have to decide whether to run away or stay & resist.

15·2 years agoI don’t find this creepy at all. All the “personalities” in my brain are just parts of me.

2·2 years agoOnce the top 1% are eaten, there will be a (slightly poorer) new top 1%. We’ll eat them. Eventuallt we will all rise to the top and be eaten. Thus, the circle of life will continue.

science@lemmy.world•Nuclear fusion reactor in South Korea runs at 100 million degrees C for a record-breaking 48 seconds
31·2 years agoWe still don’t know anything other than wild hand waving speculation about the eventual costs of fusion power. The ultimate solution may require a ton of unobtanium-spice alloy that has been tempered in a midoclorian bath. We have no F-ing clue what it’ll cost. But I can guarantee that there will be state sponsored conspiracy theories about all aspects of it. So let’s wait before we start fighting over the conspiracies. They are not ripe yet.

22·2 years agoIt’s wwaaaaaaaayyy to soon to be speculating about power bills. A practical power plant is probably still about 30 years away.

For adding specificity to lamguage. If you are talking about several people, the disambiguation can be handy.
We could have add pronouns that distinguish by size, or age, etc.
The really stupid feature of most indo-european is the arbitrary gendering of most nouns.
