I honestly don’t get why the traditional recipes call for so much artificial sugar.
It’s completely unneeded, IME.

My god, I would not know how I could possibly help upon a modern farm, me with my CFS/ME and all. I mean, I could LEARN all the important stuff, but my NRG runs out so quick, such that… just that… &^!@#$
Message incoming, hang on a bit… hang on
All true*
* I remember that (yes, amongst a head filled with cabbage) you were explaining sometime back about the history of wheat (Triticum), in terms of developing major nutrient-loss across human-cultivation, and how even in the Middle-Ages, in which we tended to keep the most important nutritional portion (the germ and outer hull, etc), it was a pretty much in a massively less-nutritional form than the actual traditional form, which might have gone back… hundreds of K’s of years, or even… millions of years…?
All that posited… I’m still rather baffled why you seem to eat so much modern bread, which is essential junk food by all known measurables, not unlike white rice.
LOL, updoot

So… not so “recent,” and data that’s already been out there for a while? Implying that this latest thing likely isn’t the first nibble…?

Oh, I thought it was more of a breaking-news thing based on recent, ongoing observations? (if not, then that’s what I get for not reading the damn article)
I remember not so long ago, the fact being presented that only rats and humans killed for unnecessary reasons. For example, outside of the broad, known idea that species could kill as part of a territorial / protection / etc thing. But based on what Goodall observed, some chimps seemed to have no particular reason to kill some others of their species. It was more of a ‘I just don’t like you’ kind of thing, IIRC.

Nice work, DohPaz and folks! I guess it will be interesting to see if the various beeps clean up their act across the other comics /c’s they post at…
Also, I confess a swell of jealousy about getting so many mod volunteers in past days. I haven’t had a single volunteer at my comics place over the years, altho of course it’s smaller (~1.1K users), and more niche than yours. Anyway, thanks for your efforts, here!

I’m still depressed that aphids wiped out my little window plant garden a couple years ago, but this post gives me hope. I wasn’t using seeds, but simply getting further growth out of stuff I’d got at the local market, such as radish, scallions and a couple other herbs.
I have very little experience with this kind of setup, but it’s always a good time to learn. Bookmarking it for future reference. Thank you for this, JayKrown.
Hi, @nacktmull@lemmy.world :D

I’m pretty sure there are already some examples of that on YT, etc, but I don’t really see why anybody would want to see a whole cartoon like that. Seems like it would get tiresome and distracting, pretty fast.
The yolks are dramatically deeper in color.
Interesting, thanks.

That for all our so-called advances, in the end we’re still a lot more like the other apes and other monkeys (for we are both), than we commonly like to perceive.
And Goodall of course already observed this stuff many decades ago (regarding chimps).
HS classmate of mine later went on to raise chickens, and said on FB that fresh eggs were miles better than just about all common store types. Maybe excluding Amish or Farmers Market? I have no way of personally checking that, as I haven’t been to my uncle’s chicken farm in many decades.
What think?
I do know that in the States, the regulation is to remove the protective coating from the egg, making it look nicer, but also cutting down on its shelf life and necessitating refridgerating it immediately. So I suppose that also factors in to taste.
I generally follow storage instructions on the label, but it’s like smoking. Some people just get lucky and live a long life without any issues.
Thanks for expanding on all that. Far as I know, however, there are indeed some things that (according to best science) don’t actually need to be refrigerated in common climate situations, such as most forms of honey and peanut butter.
HAHAHAHA, that’s awesome.
Like the next gen of… what was it again?

Btw, that’s a great, but hard word to learn in French. Took me like 10x to pronounce it correctly, so I might just be a…

Funny. The very paper itself is proposing that belief isn’t needed, because we have measurables. Or you can look at the real-world, impressive work of Mark Epstein, who does a great job coming at meditation (and Buddhism) from both an insider and an outsider’s perspective. (he’s a trained and licensed psychiatrist)
So maybe it’s really more of an anti-belief thing here?

I suspect that the market and capitalism has had a hand. In my youth, I remember opinion pieces being marked quite clearly in newspapers, and in general it seemed like there was a sort of a popular, chatty, slightly-pompous style they were usually written in. I.e., it was pretty clear what exactly they were, and by that very nature, it allowed the writer to have some real fun with the premise.
Over time, my guess is that the faster nature of modern civ / society combined with capitalism skewed things towards dropping much of the former signal language, and treating news as more of a pure product, with a certain deception and advertising built-in to drive engagement and revenue.
On a side note, my take on scientific papers is that they’re generally very difficult for laypeople to understand (hand raised here), and need a certain trained class of news-people to represent them accurately, simply in terms of what the paper is about. But more than that, even more specialised people are needed to put the paper in to full context, considering the publication, peer-review level, and junk science possibility. Unfortunately for the public, I’m not sure those people exist in any significant quantity.
Okay, thank you!
I was kinda curious if there were new techniques being demonstrated here, but I guess that’s pretty traditional stuff. Still, some may not know these things, so good share.
what people did to survive the ones they experienced.
A TL;DR would be very useful, here.
Good point!
So as I mentioned, there’s a pretty clear point upon such…?
