World News@lemmy.world•Trump says he’s considering ‘joint venture’ with Iran for Strait of Hormuz tollsEnglish
2·2 days agoWell what will happen is that US courts will declare it illegal, but after attention spans have moved on, so the end result will be that Iran just wins in the end, and oil gets more expensive.
EV rated outlets are a scam. I know the Internet is obsessed with this idea, but all UL listed NEMA outlets are perfectly capable of carrying their full load indefinitely, as the tests literally require them to draw 125% of their rated capacity until temperature stops increasing, and that temperature cannot be more than the temperature rating for the THHN/THWN wire they serve - typically 75C. This is a perfect example of internet forum conventional wisdom flat out getting something wrong and then stubbornly doubling down on bad information.
What about porn which doesn’t involve any women?

13·2 days agoNot really, it’s the exact opposite. There isn’t any more methanol in small scale shine than there is in homebrew beer. The risk is if you make a large enough batch that you can get a full bottle of just heads, and then decide to drink that for whatever reason. But even at moderate scales, that’s not going to happen.

5·2 days agoIt has always fascinated me how a bunch of people who have never been to China, and who don’t speak the language have such confident opinions about Chinese politics. It’s the exact same racist paternalism they constantly accuse liberals of, but with a triple dose of fart huffing.
I think going to see a comedian perform live, there is a certain level of consent to be exposed to controversial or offensive jokes, especially if they are known for that kind of thing. The problem is when that leaves the comedy club, and stops being a joke, and becomes “cover” for actual bigotry disguised as a “joke.” Far too many people think that because it’s funny when a professional says it in a stand-up show, it must also be funny when uncle Steve says it at Thanksgiving.
There is also the issue of punching down, and how that changes when you go from being a working comic doing small shows, to being famous and on Netflix. This is Chappelle’s biggest issue imo. The guy who made Half Baked isn’t the same guy who made Chappelle show, who isn’t the same guy who intentionally picks on trans people for shock value.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't I care about the Artemis mission/program?English
1·3 days agoIt’s impressive in the sense that it’s the second time they launched a mostly clean sheet heavy-lift rocket. It took spaceX dozens of exploding rockets before they could even think about putting humans on one. Just getting something that insanely complex working the first time is kind of incredible, and I say this as an engineer who works on much simpler things that almost never work perfectly the first time.
