1·10 days agoOh yeah absolutely. That’s what this HA update sounds like it’s solving, which is very exciting! Going to need to pick up some ESP32s with IR myself now. The SofaBaton is a higher quality product that matches the Harmony which is why I brought it up

2·10 days agoIf you’re looking for Harmony level usage and have a pretty penny to spend, look at SofaBaton. Programmable universal remote with hub, and there are home assistant integrations for local control.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do trains save fuel when they literally park on the tracks and block multiple intersections, with over a hundred vehicles steady burning gas all around waiting for the train to fucking move?
6·12 days agoOh I more than understood your question, as much as there was one. I’m taking the piss out of you because your question is more of a rant than anything else.
Move somewhere else if you don’t like it. You live in an industrial area. As do I, where the trains stop traffic multiple times per day since we have lumber yards here. And we all deal with it because we chose to live here.
The fuel costs of having the train do what it does, even though it’s an inconvenience for you, will certainly be substantially less than them catering to you. That’s by my estimation though. If you have data showing otherwise, let’s take a look at it.

18·12 days agoThat’s a separate issue. You asked a question, and an answer was given.
I bet that your city is used to having trains, seeing as they’re pretty major infrastructure, and had the good sense to have multiple police and fire stations on each side, thus not negatively impacting their response times.
Have you called the station managers or whatever to file an official complaint? If not, you’re wasting your time complaining here.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•how do i fix top surface bulging in orcaslicer?English
2·12 days agoSecond gyroid infill. Doesn’t take much longer, and doesn’t scrape against itself while printing.
And also general tuning with a calibration cube. Verify temps and extrusion values, the usual.
Yours is so much nicer than mine!! I got this one made for our little studio apartment, but we never really used it so I didn’t bother polishing it up. The temp on the fridge is the apartment temp, and the lights are visible buttons, but I love your invisible buttons and will follow how you did it if I end up doing it again!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a device that allows one to manage "scenes" with multiple monitors and multiple devices?
4·13 days agoI’ve been in this situation for a few years now (Working from home, wanting to share screens between devices).
KVMs and HDMI Switches are what to look for, as others have said. Scenes aren’t something you’re going to get cheaply, but you’ve still got options. For reference, I currently have three 27in 1440p monitors.
The first one I bought was a cheap 2 HMDI IN->2 HDMI OUT that worked pretty well. It’s straight 1-to-1 matching, you can’t mix and match what goes where without actually moving the cables, but it was great for having my main and right monitor be easily switched between my Desktop and Work computers. My left monitor is just for my desktop so I can multitask.
It died after a couple years and I upgraded my main monitor to my first 1440p which it couldn’t handle anyways. I wanted to use my main with Display Port so I got a 1 HDMI IN->2 HDMI OUT for just my right monitor. Center monitor has multiple inputs so I just use the screen’s buttons to switch.
My current monitor setup I literally setup this week. Each has multiple HDMI and DP inputs and it takes just a few seconds to switch each one with its built in switcher, and I honestly think this is the way to go.
After a few years of doing it, I say if you are able to, prioritize nice monitors with multiple inputs and use their built in systems for switching. A few more button presses, but that’s just a few seconds of time.

1·13 days agoWe owed money the last couple years. We definitely didn’t opt out of withholding, and we don’t make any income from interest. It’s as easy as just not having your paperwork done correctly. Or even when it is, as it was in our case, the default withholding is an estimate which is why most end up overpaying (hence the refunds). I ended up putting an additional $50/check for taxes so we’d at least be getting close to owing nothing. This is the first year in quite a few that we actually got some money back.

6·13 days agoThis came out during an interesting time in history. We went to the moon just a couple years later! Technology was exciting, things were happening. Trying to put myself into the shoes of an average person back then, I’d say it’s totally believable. We have the benefit of hindsight and a more digital world to easily see it’s fake.

Some people, sure. You and some in your close circle of acquaintances likely use it.
Not once have I ever needed to measure something in joules. I suspect that many people, if not most, don’t use joules in daily life.
