UK Politics@feddit.uk•Green Party London election candidate stands down after arson attack claimEnglish
9·9 days agoShe alleged it was orchestrated by members of the Jewish community, yet there is no mention from the police that those arrested are part of the community.
After four Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green were set alight on March 23, Ms Olawoyin had suggested the incident could have been orchestrated by members of the Jewish community.
Five people have now been arrested in connection with the attack. On Wednesday, the Met confirmed two British men, aged 19 and 20, and a 17-year-old dual British-Pakistani national, had been detained at separate addresses in east London.
Two British men, aged 47 and 45, were arrested last week on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and have been bailed until later this month.

Australia@aussie.zone•Is the war in the Middle East is Australia's COVID 2.0 moment?English
2·14 days agoFor me the similarity is that this is the most disruptive event to travel and the global economy since the COVID-19 pandemic. I have a friend who’s had to cancel their trip to Europe because their stopover was in the Middle East. I’m also reading about people being encouraged to work from home.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Hackney pub’s child‑free rule sparks debate onlineEnglish
4·14 days agoI think it depends on the context, if it was the only pub in a small village, you’d want it to be inclusive as possible. However, in a big city like London, there are lots of pubs, and if one isn’t child-friendly, there’s plenty of others that are, and vice versa.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Government to pay companies to hire unemployed young peopleEnglish
3·24 days agoThe article explains it better than I could:
The government will pay firms £3,000 for each unemployed young person they employ, under new plans to boost youth employment.
Alongside the new ‘job grants,’ the government will offer an apprenticeship incentive of £2,000 for each new employee aged 16 to 24 taken on by a small- and medium-sized enterprise.

Australia@aussie.zone•'We've reached a breaking point': Is it time to tax older Australians more?English
3·1 month agoOur tax system should be fair. It isn’t. Those who can afford to pay the most often pay very little.
The point of the article is that the current tax system isn’t fair, and instead it privileges wealthy older Australians:
Generous tax arrangements have also allowed older Australians to accumulate significant wealth and income linked to their real estate and superannuation assets.
Despite this growing wealth, the tax system has not adjusted, instead providing increased support for older generations, a working paper from the Australian National University’s (ANU) Tax and Transfer Policy Institute last year found.
