I joined Lemmy back in 2020 and have been using it as @qaz@lemmy.ml until somewhere in 2023 when I switched to lemmy.world. I’m interested in systemd/Linux, FOSS, and Selfhosting.

Videos@lemmy.world•Mitigating DRAM Refresh Latency via Hedged Request Strategies | LaurieWiredEnglish
21·15 hours agoIt’s not bs because you don’t know it.
For anyone else wondering what it’s about. Due to the way modern memory chips function, they leak electricity and have to be recharged periodically. This prevents the CPU from accessing the memory resulting in latency spikes. This video explains that, and explores methods to mitigate it.
I’m not really sure how people come to that conclusion either, but perhaps they are just unfamiliar with these types of posts

4·4 days agoI saw you joined it, what do you think about it so far? They mentioned non transparency of algorithms, and I feel like FOSS would help a lot for that. They also mentioned more regulation, but I’m worried that might lead to regulatory capture, disspropionately affecting smaller communities while big tech remains largely unimpacted.
Also a bit ironic they use gmail lol

I think they have access to the same models as OpenAI but choose to use smaller models to achieve higher margins / manage costs when people are using it all day long.
I didn’t consider this angle, that does sound good

Perhaps consider making it clear that this is a joke about coping mechanisms and not a threat aimed at someone in particular. I’ve received several reports about this post, some from people who seemingly believed that was the case.
From the perspective of evolution infanticide is beneficial
Perhaps not the best thing to base your opinions on.
