ICE uses Israeli spyware Graphite, installed on phones through a zero-click messaging exploit, to decrypt people’s encrypted messages.

…are the fentanyl traffickers in the room right now?
Wouldn’t be suprised if it was ice
Allegedly the CIA trafficed cocaine, playing a part in introducing crack into black neighborhoods, so there is precedent.
Oh yeah. YOU are a fentanyl trafficker, and YOU are a fentanyl trafficker, and YOU are a fentanyl trafficker! 🎤 😃 👉
How do we protect our privacy? (Im asking sincerely)
Support encrypted open source systems
If you are going to a protest don’t bring phone wallet anything. You are nobody
But because any non-white is a fentanyl-trafficker in their eyes…
tldr: the “encrypted” messages are from whatsapp using a zero click exploit.
no mention of any other e2ee messengers.
Aka infect target and read message after decrypt. No encrypt actually broke and no message actually intercept.

and it’s already known whatsapp is dodgy af. Still there are people saying, but everyone is using whatsapp (implying so should you).
Can’t fix stupid

Scroll over to whatsapp column on the right hand side and read the entire column.

GraphenOS may protect from this attack.
Is that why my phone battery just suddenly drains now?
My phone battery just a few weeks back started to drain faster as well. When I used reddit it did too, when I switched to lemmy it stopped, until a little back.
Was thinking it’s time for another factory reset, it’s just such a pain.
I use an Android app called SD Maid that cleans up my old-as-the-hills phone. As soon as I use the app my phone is faster.
Probably one of the planned obsolescence updates. My Galaxy watch just got two of them and now it needs to be charged once a day.
Tbf, since they moved to WearOS Galaxy Watch always chews through the battery for a day or two after an upgrade, and then returns to normal. I presume it’s doing a load of background app refreshes/optimisations after the update.
I got nothing useful from that linked discussion.
GrapheneOS would be the perfect OS for all phones if it would actually work on a phone that is not a Google Pixel.
Until GrapheneOS is going to have support for other hardware, it will be going nowhere really slow
They recently announced a partnership with Motorola Mobility (a subsidiary of China’s Lenovo) to offer it on a non-Google phone. Is this what you had in mind?
Now we just need a Diamond to fill out the fight card
Anytime I see someone describe some form of software, I do generally understand what they’re trying to mean, but I can’t help but think of it as software that runs so inefficiently that it consumes a ton of power.
Also, hey man, stop using whatsapp.
Spyware can affect any messaging app so I’m not sure what this has to do with this post.
Did you read the post? The Spyware specifically targeted whatsapp, hence my mentioning it.
WhatsApp is targeted because it’s the most popular messaging app. If another app becomes popular, it’ll be targeted too. I guess using a niche app is one way to avoid the spyware, but it’s likely collecting data from all apps, not just WhatsApp.
Shocked I tell.
