Technology@beehaw.org•Why we’ve fallen out of love with dating apps
5·11 months agoThat’s fair. I may generally be a bit over suspicious at times, but the apps definitely struck me as off very early on. As to charging men, while it does suck, I get it. It similar to “ladies’ night” at clubs (do they still do that?). It isn’t hard to get men in the door, but it is significantly harder to get women to attend, oftentimes due to some of the behaviors exhibited by the men. With the gender differences on app usage, it would likely drive that disparity even higher if they charged women.

3·11 months agoBubble wasn’t around when I last engaged with dating apps, though I wouldn’t give any app the benefit of the doubt, including in any conceivable future. While there are exceptions to the rule, as you mentioned, I’d say most people will be better off without dating apps, with or without a partner.

22·11 months agoI can’t speak to women’s experiences, but as a man, it was pretty clear that these apps were dogshit designed to steal information while keeping you engaged with bots so they can further steal from you, including financially. Much like Facebook, I was an early rejector of dating apps, and I’ve been proven correct on both fronts. From what I can tell, the tech has only gotten better at taking advantage of lonely/stupid men. While dating isn’t really a concern for me anymore, when I was actively dating, it was never difficult to meet women. It just requires a willingness to be open and accept rejection. Also, be willing to cut off interaction for relationships that aren’t healthy. It’s better to be alone than in a shitty relationship.
Colonizers are not “civilians.” Furthermore, every adult participates in the IDF and its crimes, completely obliterating the idea they are “civilians.”

0·1 year agoI have been receiving so much spam the last 9 months. At first, I attributed it to the election, but it has actually escalated since December. I recieve 20+ blocked calls a day at this point. They sometimes use one or two new numbers in a day, so I have to add those to the list. Before I had enough of the numbers blocked, my phone was going off incessantly. Idk were my number appeared to cause this, but I’ve had to shut off my voicemail and block all texts from numbers not already saved on my phone. I think I might just change my number at this point, it might actually be more convenient.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Please seed !! Public torrents need your helpEnglish
8·1 year agoI’m not sure why people downvoted instead of educating. To answer your question: no, it isn’t. It has been awhile since I’ve used torrents, so this may be a little out of date, but typically, within your P2P client you’ll have active “seeds,” including while you’re downloading. Some people immediately delete files from “active” after their download is complete. It is generally considered proper etiquette to leave the torrent active (at least) until it you have uploaded approximately 2x what you have downloaded. This helps keep torrents active and relatively quick, while not placing the bulk of the bandwidth burden on a few seeders.
That sounds likely as well. Now that you say it, it seems obvious that it was bon appetite. Thanks
This seems like bad voice to text. I figured out everything except “bone smack the teeth.” Anybody know what that’s supposed to be?

15·1 year agoNot only that, but you’re often not getting the quality you’re paying for due to the limitations of streaming. So, I’m not going to pay $20+ a month for what equates to 720i with garbage audio. Absolutely not.

You literally just search for start-up programs, open it, and then check the box next to the program. Sure, if someone is writing a manual, you need to write technically and clearly, but it is not complicated or time-consuming.
One of my favorite moments on reddit was spotting a bot that spouted unrelated nonsense. I checked the comment history and found users responding earnestly to the nonsense. While it was hilarious, it was also quite sad, the state of those people.
Thanks for sharing! Based of that one video, I like homie’s energy, I’ll check out some more of his channel.
Another issue is that publically traded companies have a legal fiduciary responsibility to shareholders, but there is no legal responsibility to society or ethics. In fact, even laws supposedly designed to constrain businesses only carry fines for the business (and rarelyany responsibilityfor the individuals making the decisions), so it’s more of an ante to sit at the big boy’s table.
