CCL launches their subglow label with Rebuild, an EP from Bristol club provocateur georg-i, featuring remixes from Metrist and the elusive B. McQueen.

subglow was initially conceived as an event series in Berlin with the ethos of “music that makes subs glow”— its musical direction centres low-end psychedelia and draws upon an expansive interpretation of soundsystem music. Each release will be a collaborative effort, featuring artwork by CCL and accompanying writings and poems by close friends, who will draw upon the feelings and atmosphere conjured by the release.

After years of lighting up the dance floor at subglow and serving as a cornerstone in CCL’s notorious club sets, Rebuild is finally getting an official release to the public. georg-i’s previous releases on Perko’s FELT and aya & BFTT’s YCO imprints have established him as an incendiary club constructor probing the fringes of contemporary dance music. The release will be accompanied by poetry from subglow co-conspirator and artist Nadia Marcus, co-founder of Berlin experimental publishing platform TABLOID Press.

Informed by the restlessness of living in an apocalyptic present and the desire to rebuild the broken systems surrounding us, Rebuild is influenced by math rock's feverish and cataclysmic energy, eschewing conventional club BPMs in favour of dizzying tempo trickery and polymetric wizardry. “Torn In Two” gets off to a slow, chugging start, with raucous synths riffing over emphatic drums, but soon swirls into a juddering, pointillistic frenzy. “Bridging The Gap” is a cathartic shout, an acidic crescendo whose triplet meter offers tempo-transitioning opportunities for adventurous DJs who don’t mind a bit of maths. “Communication” gallops along cathartically through ricocheting synths and drums, unfolding into a thrilling breakdown. On remix duties, B. McQueen re-imagines “Torn In Two” as a sultry, dubbed-out roller, charting groove across a heady plain, while Metrist’s ambitious rework of “Communication” amps up the tension and primes it for a peak-time dancefloor sometime in the next millennium.
