Replace historic by the element

Description

When we select a node, a way or a relation, if we click at the bottom of the left panel on "last changed ... by ...", iD opens the historic of the node, of the way or of the relation.
It means that we cannot see if that element is part of another element : we need to click at the bottom of the page on "Node' or "Way" or "Relation" to see this important information.

Could you by default open the element instead of the history of the element ?

We changed that only recently to have easier access to the history. Personally this is more my use case than what you describe.
Could we maybe get the info you are looking for elsewhere?

I’d like to clarify and propose an improvement regarding the behavior of the “last changed … by …” link in the left panel.

Current behavior

When selecting a node, way, or relation and clicking “last changed … by …”, iD directly opens the history view of the element. While this is useful, it makes it harder to immediately see whether the element is part of another way or relation, which is important information during editing.

Currently, users must navigate back to the element view to see membership details.

Problem

This workflow prioritizes history over structural context. In many editing scenarios, understanding how an element is used (parent ways / relations) is more important than its edit history, especially for beginners or when working with complex relations.

Proposed improvement

Open the element details view by default when clicking “last changed … by …”, and make the history accessible as a secondary action (for example, via a “View history” button or tab).

This would:

• Reduce unnecessary navigation
• Make membership information immediately visible
• Preserve access to history without removing functionality

Happy to explore implementation options if this direction makes sense.
