for reference, the existing format was added after request in #9683 //cc @TagaSanPedroAko

I also noticed that addr:town is not used very often compared to the other address tags in South Korea: https://taginfo.geofabrik.de/asia:south-korea/search?q=addr%3A. Is that expected? Also, is there any documentation of the address tagging in South Korea on the OSM wiki? Or any other sources where to verify that this format is matching the addresses used "on the ground"?

  1. Yes, the existing addr:town usage is low because the current iD address fields for South Korea do not provide a dedicated slot or UI hint for town(읍/면).
If iD can incorporate a addr:town input field for KR addresses, usage will likely increase, as many Korean mappers currently only fill higher-level admin (province/city/district) due to the lack of UI guidance.

  2. In practice, Korean addresses do include 읍/면, as documented in the official road name address guideline by the Korean government (link to PDF)
