SONiC Community Lab Acceptable Usage Policy
The SONiC Community Lab’s Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) defines what is acceptable and not acceptable in the community labs and the usage of its resources. These lab environments are sponsored by the Linux Foundation SONiC Project. They are hosted by the UNH-IOL and made available to community members for purposes of developing, testing, and releasing SONiC features.
In general, the laboratory services are intended to operate autonomously, providing a continuous integration and testing environment, where test results are reported back to the larger community via a public dashboard. To accomplish this work, some operational maintenance and development is undertaken by specific participants within the SONiC community. Those participants, SONiC Community Lab Users, are defined as either:
- A member, company, or individual of the SONiC Community that has provided hardware devices for testing within the community lab;
- Any member of the community who has been granted access to one or more specific testbeds by the Point of Contact (PoC) from the company that provided the hardware; or
- Any individual specifically granted access to the Community Lab by the SONiC TSC, for a specific purpose and duration.
- Resources within the lab are typically controlled autonomously through SONiC project controlled test orchestrators. However, participants may utilize the equipment to debug or develop additional testing.
- Hardware resources are only to be used for their assigned purpose.
- Users may not "host" or "assign" hardware resources to other projects or individuals without the approval of the SONiC Project or the Linux Foundation.
- No data, software, or intellectual property that is not freely available to the community may be downloaded or stored in/on the lab resource.
- Users are responsible for obtaining, monitoring and renewing any software licenses required. No software may be downloaded or used in the lab without required licenses.
- The UNH-IOL and Linux Foundation reserve the right to audit software and lab usage without notice and remove access of users who are not following this AUP.
- User access to community lab resources is provided through a VPN connection.
- UNH-IOL will supply VPN credentials only to SONiC Community Lab Users, as defined above.
- Individual Users shall not share their VPN credentials with others.
- Within the community lab, any User may only access equipment specific and pertinent to that User, such as equipment provided to the community lab by the User’s current employer.
- Access controls to such equipment are incorporated into the lab’s network and VPN access system, designed to limit User access to the appropriate equipment.
- Access to remotely controlled PDUs will be provided, to enable participants to remotely power cycle DUTs within the lab.
- Causing or intending to cause any damage or configuration change to the BIOS of the hosted systems or equipment will result in permanent loss of access to the lab resources.
- Available Internet bandwidth is limited and shared across all lab users.
- Downloading excessively large files can interfere with other users therefore as a courtesy the lab admin should be informed if users intend to download very large files or consume substantial bandwidth for any duration.
- Support is provided during normal business hours (assuming the USA East Coast time zone). Support outside of those hours is provided on a best effort basis only.
- Support requests might take up to 24 business hours to be completed, depending on the request.
- For support, please contact [email protected].
Any violation of this Acceptable Usage Policy may result in loss of access and usage of the SONiC Community Lab resources.
