Switching from checkout to switch branch #2414

Hi
From my understanding fugitive is using checkout instead of switch (probably because that is how you guys did it back in the day).
As I am fairly new to commandline Git, I should start by asking: Is there any benefits to using checkout?
If no will fugitive be interested in moving to switch?
Even though I'm new to this vim world. I am already in love, and would like to help out by creating this feature if it is wanted. Let me know if you are interested. :)
