replacement of core system utilities that aren’t ready for prime time
Could we talk about Unity? I’d wager that these bugs wouldn’t have been found by 2027 if Ubuntu hadn’t adopted sudo-rs. And I’d say “look at where Unity is right now” if they hadn’t switched to GNOME Shell.

Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Affected By Multiple Security Vulnerabilities - Impacting Ubuntu 25.10
17·5 months agoOne of the patches is to prevent the sudo password from being leaked in case of a timeout or sudo being killed. Another patch is to use enum for the feedback parameter. Another patch to ensure feedback is always erased before exiting the read unbuffered code. Another change is also made to not treat backspace as a password character when the password is empty.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things America has lied about in the history books but the world accepts?
7·5 months agothat is covered in the history books tho? it’s cited as the biggest fault of the johnson administration, the impetus for the war powers act, an entry point to introducing the topic of counterculture in the textbook (flower power, anti-war, peace sign, Kent State…), and the progenitor of distrust in the government, after all

The Louisville Democratic Party responded on X: “We are here for this energy. Kentucky, put our primary May 19, 2026 and Election Day, November 3, 2026 in your calendar for our next elections!”
Journalist Caitlin Huey-Burns wrote on X: “This is a good public service announcement.”

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Jesus was a historical person. This doesn’t mean Christianity is correct, but there is sufficient historical evidence and most mainstream scholars of the era agree on this.
51·6 months agoThat’s just orthography; the letters and words didn’t exist, which is unrelated to whether the things they represent did. There was in fact a judge, a January, and a Julius Caesar in Rome.
this actually seems like a good pun for a chemistry building

is there any reason to suspect foul play with Swartz? his life was upended through facing the lawfare of “$1 million in fines, 35 years in prison, asset forfeiture, restitution, and supervised release” he could only get rid of by effectively renouncing his beliefs.
