  • I liked it, but it does get pretty dull in the end game. Lots of repetitive body management, and you get into a perfectionist mindset where you want to only put top-tier bodies into the ground or to work as zombies, so you end up burning a lot of bodies and grinding for good organs.

Plus, the story goes basically no where even with the expansions. A lot of fun, good for that Stardew Valley itch, but flawed. Hopefully their sequel is a richer game.

  • “Artificial Intelligence” is a very broad term that, within computer science, covers a range of techniques and tools that broadly cover the study of “human-like behavior and impersonation.” Before the current fad of calling LLMs “AI”, the term was most often used in video games and covered techniques for pathfinding, decision making, reacting, seeming to speak, etc. Before that, pre-90s basically, “AI” had already undergone a few boom and bust cycles of hype with chess playing machines and, as always, chat bots.

In many fields, many of these same techniques and their descendants are being used to model and simulate and predict. All of them have trade-offs and limitations, that’s what computer science is all about.

  • As others have said, marijuana is almost never adulterated. At best, you could mix some CBD or non psychoactive hemp to stretch it, but it’d be less potent and weed buyers today often buy for potency. (Not me man, I’m old, gimme that weak dad grass any day!) And of course, everyone has a story about the kid that bought a pound of oregano and thought it was ditch-grass.

For other harder drugs, you do sometimes get adulteration. Fentanyl, being a very powerful opiate, is sometimes mixed in small amounts into other “white powder” drugs, like heroin or cocaine, sometimes along with cheap non-reactive filler like talc. This is to stretch supply and make more money for the dealer. Ideally, this wouldn’t kill their users but:

    1. Different drugs act differently, so while it might be “safe” to do a larger heroin dose for a fun occasion, if you dont realize it’s been cut with fentanyl then you can easily overdose by accident. And people already overdose on heroin, the line between a wild time and dead can be rather thin.
    2. Drug Dealers aren’t graduate level chemists, often they haven’t graduated anything, and dont realize that some powder they’ve used as a filler is toxic or becomes toxic in combination with other things or when heated, etc.

  • I also underwent a shift from atheism and materialism (in reaction to my Christian upbringing) into a more syncretic form of personal spirituality. I’ve really taken to heart the idea (which i think I learned from Jodorowsky) that magic is a language which speaks to the unconscious, and so spirituality isn’t just comforting woo, but actually can shift beliefs and ideas, impacting behaviors and outcomes. I also think spirituality is vital to community and buidling better societies.

  • For all these former-AI-booster takes and realizations about the nightmare they’ve ushered in, I’ve yet to see anyone really comprehend why this is happening and why it won’t stop. It isnt just “shareholders like AI.”

This is the final bet. If one of these companies figures it out, they genuinely believe it’ll be the end of workers, the end of labor cost, and the dawn of an era of unlimited profit. They believe that. I mean what’s far more likely is that it rapidly gets hooked into the MIC and we get actual Skynet kicking off the Apocalypse. Or maybe just the complete annihilation of the economy as we all get a global experiment in what it looks like when “consumers” don’t exist anymore and everything is 100% supply side. But not one of these “rational actors” can bear the thought that they’d miss out on a bet with an infinite possible payout, therefore any amount must he wagered.

  • I completely agree. I’ve been sharing some art I’m doing for inktober, but only because it’s doodles for practice, and could only make ai art worse for it’s inclusion.

But my writing (on my personal website) or my serious art works or my persona open source code projects? Yeah, I have lost all enthusiasm to share them online. If people want to see my work, I’ll send it to them directly.

I think the era of free and open sharing on the Internet is dead, which does sadden me. I think we’re ultimately moving to a new dark age, the Dark Net Age, where all communication and sharing will go into various private chats and sites, where people can be vetted and held accountable.

Well people that care, which will end up being like the early internet: smart kids, embattled minorities, and crotchety, paranoid old folks. All the people too busy or ignorant to care are already deep into the algorithmic treadmills of X and TikTok and I don’t think they’re ever coming out.
