Usually 8 +/- a bit. I have become a lighter sleeper in my 40s and do wake up at least once most nights (excluding earthquakes because that’s not something I can help). My neighbor starts work really early and has to drive a heavy vehicle so that starts around sun-up (5:30 now but will be 4:30am in mid summer) so I try to adapt my schedule. It’s not that bad since my second job is farming and it’s much better in the early morning before the oppressive heat and humidity here.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When do Americans actually do the taxes? On January 1? Or do y'all like procrastinate till April 15?
4·2 days agoBefore I had to wait on slow 1099s: as soon as the IRS and the software I used had the forms all set up.
Now: whenever the last slow-assed company sends me a 1099 which is sometime in March null
I want to do things ASAP and have them done, so that’s hard. As an overseas citizen, I do get an automatic 6-month extension, but I’ve never had to come anywhere close to the normal deadline, even.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it the American way to complain about the US, or is it that other countries aren't worth complaining about?
41·5 days agoI don’t think I’ve heard a genuine complaint from a Japenese person about Japan
I have and plenty. It depends on the person, the setting, and how well you know them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those of you with a living room or multiple rooms; do you have a TV in your bedroom? Why or why not?
5·6 days agoNo bedroom TV. As an ADHD person, that’s just a ‘never-going-to-sleep’ trap. I do have a list of youtube channels I put on my phone at lowest volume and screen off for background noise. It can’t be too interesting or I won’t sleep; it just needs to keep my mind from wandering in bad directions.

Kinda. I don’t use most social media, which I suppose is not super helpful
I’m in Japan. It’s not worth it on my scale to even try. I do plan to get chickens for our eggs (and bonus bug eating and compost helping), but otherwise I’m just in the veg business. I have full English support and website which helps me find my market
It’s always a balance of what you can afford, what you want to do, and what your market can bare. You may love raising chickens, but eggs will almost never pay off. I love hot peppers. But I can’t get by growing just that. It is skilled and complicated for sure.
[I]t’s hard work for low pay that is very hard to buy yourself into if you weren’t born with some land.
It’s certainly hard work and low pay (compared to software engineering) in many cases, but it is rewarding.
As for the land, that really depends on the scale and the country.

You need to keep working on language. It takes a lot of time to learn your first non-native language and then gets easier. As with anything, language-learning is a skill that can be learned.
That or limit yourself to english-language countries. I can’t stand people who move somewhere, never learn the language, etc. Japan has a ton and the government is finally adding language requirements to some statuses (though some of the worst offenders are English teachers who will not have any such restriction)
