This has the benefit of not needing batteries since the molten salt stays hot long after the sun is down.

Ask Electronics@discuss.tchncs.de•Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know if I put a wifi extender in the shed (according to the drawing) will the signal reach the office? Thanks for any help.English
3·15 days agoAnother potential fix, just get a better router or dedicated hot spot. Repeaters can sometimes be flaky.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Most Americans would rather live in a big house in a car-based community than a small house in a walking-based community.English
1·24 days agoI agree sounds and smells are more common in the city, but to me that isn’t an issue with introversion since that isn’t socializing? Seems more like sensory sensitivity, not introversion. Someone can have both of course.

151·24 days agoI find this ironic as an introvert. I rarely interact with any of my neighbors since it was an apartment with constantly rotating rents. My apartment complex had more people than the rural town I grew up in. City living it’s easy to be one of the faceless masses. My rural family loves to talk to and gossip about neighbors. They constantly run into people they know at the few stores they have.
Edit: City life can have close knit communities. But it seems more opt-in than forced.

Games@lemmy.world•Why do people are so fine with Warframe monetization methods?English
5·24 days agoThis is why I avoid f2p games. Much rather pay for a game than to be constantly hounded. There’s so many cheap indie games. Or cheap old AAA games.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Shockingly light punishment for speeding Mercedes driver who killed couple and their babies at SF bus stopEnglish
9·25 days agoYea, 3 year suspended license. I’m sure when she can drive again at 83, she’ll be a better driver. Honestly the standards (or lack thereof) is insane. People should be regularly tested regardless of age to see if they’re competent to drive.

Oh, you’re right. AI slop it is.
~~It doesn’t even look like AI to me, looks like a very simple edit. ~~ I stand corrected

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Steam Support :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against ValveEnglish
1·1 month agoValve is closer to physical because they have a market place. In a way it’s more fair then any other game. (They still control the marketplace so it’s not as fair as physical). Also as a slight defense to digital, at least we’re not manufacturing and shipping more plastic waste for landfills just so people can get their gambling kick.

29·1 month agoI mean, it’s not different. Pokemon and MtG also have departments to try to entice users with fomo. It’s what marketing is. It’s why they have limited runs, promotional crossovers, etc. Valve is just more open about the process.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Did you dream of a videogame long before it happened?English
1·2 months agoNot saying you knew about it, but the predecessor, Elite 2 (1993), also had procedural galaxies. The Elite series goes back to the 80s.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Sid Meier's Civilization VI is currently free (Epic via Prime)English
2·3 months agoDisagree, free loading customers still help their customer base. They are still seen as potential customers and normalize having epic store client, legitimizing their own walled garden. It’s similar to any free-to-play game. All the customers that pay $0 technically cost the company money, but it’s worth having that dead weight to build a player base to get the whales in. Just by installing and having an epic account will inevitably draw other people in that will spend money and lure in investors and developers. They’re not dumb.
Really don’t think of it from an individual point of view, but as a whole.

41·3 months agoNot really, you cost Epic money but give them more users. Which is what they want. Only get free games from them if you want to support Epic.
Recently watched Citizen Kane for the first time. I’m surprised how well it holds up. It’s better than many new movies that are coming out. But I think that says more about how shitty some new movies are.

I don’t know. If my parent was an Astronaut and they decided to stop being an Astronaut for me. I would hate that, feels like a burden.
