I get it, though. They’re trying to reach and educate the people that haven’t already been on mastadon or the fediverse.

It would help if plenty if public services, government websites, and even large companies could actually sort out their certificates so it didn’t happen all the time on actual official websites.
Please don’t make me follow an NPC. That’s worse than yellow paint.
Oh I have the opposite problem. I wish I could convince DHL to just leave the damn thing on the doorstep. No, DHL, not everyone is home to sign for a package.
I don’t know. I’m not sure if anyone has those stats specifically. I know that head injuries are the leading cause of cyclist deaths and un-helmeted riders are three times more likely to die from head injuries

This is data from Denmark, so a bike-centric country with good infrastructure. It still reports a significant decrease in traumatic brain injury for helmet use in a given crash.
I like the idea, but if it doesn’t work than it’s not great. Plus sharing helmets can be I’ll advised for health reasons.
I know there was a company in Europe that was working on a portable airbag style helmet. Hopefully something like that would make bike share more viable.
Even with dedicated lanes, bike accidents without helmets are more dangerous.
The problem with bike share is the helmet issue. I love my bike but I’m not going to carry a helmet everywhere I go on the off chance I might bike.

Maybe banks could use a way to authenticate the user a second way, that doesn’t involve a password. If only. (Sidenote: why do banks still insist on sms 2FA?)

You do (did?) on iOS for the longest time.
Feels like a Calvin’s Dad explanation.

I wouldn’t call the argument a bad faith argument. Perhaps there is a line somewhere, but ultimately, his argument is that “two people who have an increased chance of passing on genetic disorders can’t have children/have a relationship”.
For most people, when asked this question outside of the incest framing, would argue that the state has no role to dictate that line. The slope is too slippery and screams too much like eugenics. It’s only within the social taboo of incest do people think that argument is acceptable.

Also you shouldn’t plug your phone into random USB ports, although i guess carrying a charge pass through adapter is an option.

One of the big issues is that IDs aren’t free. So those that don’t have IDs are generally low income. So you essentially disenfranchise poor voters. It’s basically seen as a poll tax.
As to the proof of citizenship, many more do not have proof of citizenship, much less carry it on them.
But it’s a Good Book don’t ya know! If you just read one book it should be a Good Book.
IANAL, but I think it’s only a crime if it’s destroyed after a warrant has been issued.

And here I was worried that I’d have to make that comment. Definitely looks like the Willshapers or the Elsecallers glyphs.

Your comparison is spot on, but are there really places where you would need to pay 27% tax making $35,000?

I think their point is that it might be against Lemmy.world’s policies, but not Lemmy as a whole due to its federation.
By the definition of post meridian, though, half past noon should be 0:30 pm.
