So does voting still make me a lib?

Australia has all these election tweaks that libs love: compulsory voting, IRV in the lower house, STV in the Senate. And what does it get them? A government that is somehow even more useless and unserious than the USA's. I think it really changed my perspective on how far you can get just with rules tweaks.

Yeah, shit like this is more or less the ultimate evidence demonstrating that the problem is liberal democracy, not democracy itself.

It's true. I read a book on Australia's electoral process and we probably do elections the best since the US doesn't actively interfere in our elections. But you read about how well considered our process is, then look at who still makes it into politics and you start to wonder how effective it really is

Vote for the local member that best represents your interests and the position of prime minister will just work itself out

This is a tried and tested method of democracy and running a government.

Thus, if you don't upvote my posts, you should go to jail.

I think FPTP (first past the post) is best. aanes_appreciator posted first so aanes is elected shrug-outta-hecks

Imagine Trump's next executive order is "TRUMP BEST PRESIDENT EVER". Every American gets an account - and if you don't upvote his Truth Social posts hard enough - you go to jail.

I feel like it legitimises Australia's electoral process. I imagine our voter turnout would be a little above America's if not for compulsory voting.

I heard it pulls political discourse towards the centre as well so we're a little less insane because politicians can't just appeal to their little racist niche

I wish Sky/Murdoch "News" Australia would just fuck off contributing to the fascist slide in Amerikkka. Bad enough without his smug ass punchable faces nazi-punching propagandists pushing themselves in youtube feeds.
