No, walking down the alley you can touch the walls. It's an an area of town that's being redeveloped. They said inside some of the houses they found parts of the old city wall which was torn down in the 1950s. They had just built houses using the city wall as part of the house. It's going to be a tourist trap when it's all done. A pity, it used to be one of my favorite old row of run-down dive bars on this street (not in the alley). Waltz in at 3:30am and there's people there, music playing and you might see someone you know. No state alcoholic beverage commission mandatory closing time in China.

It's an undisclosed location. China is like America where there are only two cities, Los Angeles and New York. The rest isn't even flyover territory. It's a no-go zone, except maybe Xi'an for the terracotta warriors (totally not worth it.) The only cool part is they have shops on the way there where you can get a terracotta warrior made with your face. One of my old buddies had one in his office. A pudgy white man's face, I guess that's a thing you can do if you have the cash.

I've been to like 30 different cities all over China, many in the "fly-over" (actually "HSR-through") territory. haven't really been to shanghai but i have been to the one with the famous city wall that was torn down in the 50s

They tore most of them down. Xi'an is one of the only ones that's preserved. Most cities just have one segment left and sometimes it's a reconstruction. After the Revolution they had to get rid of the Four Olds. That's when the originalShaolin temple was destroyed and the Shaolin masters killed or reeducated. Today's school is fake, no kung fu, more like dancing. I had a buddy used to be super into Kung Fu and he said China's fighting was a joke. Fun fact: Bruce Lee was also a champion ballroom dancer, which makes sense.
