If any PieFed users want to hide image and video posts from their feed, add this CSS to your ‘Additional CSS’ field in your settings: https://piefed.social/c/piefed_css/p/1973407/hide-image-and-video-posts-from-home-page

PieFed only stores 90 days of read post history.

Now that we have had that feature running for a long time I can see how much space is used by this (430 MB) and I think it’s fine to increase this to 180 days.

I’ve also added an admin option at /admin/misc which will let you increase it to any value. If you want to keep read history ‘forever’ than just put a really big value in there. On a single user instance the amount of data used by this table will probably be much smaller than it is on piefed.social.

We gave it a good try. I love it but we need to meet people where they are.

We can take it as a given that codeberg will always be with us.

It is very much a forge, though, not a true discussion space. Issues only have a single thread, @mentions only work with contributors, banning is limited or non-existant(?) and so on.

I’m going to call an end to this poll at this point because 35 responses seems like plenty.

Here are the results:

It is surprising and gratifying how many people would be fine to just go all-in on PieFed. Bold.

I think it’s fair to say that Zulip is not very popular as every scenario with Zulip in it did poorly. At the same time every scenario with Matrix in it did Ok.

These results suggest we should move the discussions formally held on Zulip over to a PieFed community and keep Matrix as-is.

Race against burnout, heh. For sure.

I think part of the reason we’ve been on 1.6.x for so long so I’ve chilled out a bit, trying to find a more sustainable pace rather than banging out new features constantly (and then associated fighting fires).

I guess it wouldn’t need to be a sudden change - whatever the result of the poll is could be used as an eventual goal to aim for rather than something we immediately implement today.

I reckon I could make substantial progress on those in a weekend. Something basically usable.

The scary thing about contemplating going all-in on PieFed is that we’ll be missing some functionality that we need - but that is also kinda the whole point of dogfooding - to highlight what’s missing and drive improvements. That discomfort is to be sought and embraced.

If you have a stake in this, please vote in the poll at https://piefed.social/c/piefed_meta/p/1965370/which-platform-s-should-we-use-for-discussing-piefed-development

PieFed contributors only, please. Not just developers, anyone who wants to see what developers are up to can vote too.

I love Loomio but I’d love PieFed even more if it had some of Loomio’s features…

At the moment the chat features of PieFed are quite neglected and minimal, because we have Zulip and Matrix. If we were PieFed-exclusive then there is a strong incentive to improve that part of PieFed.

What is the MVP chat experience that PieFed needs to provide before we could start to dogfood it? Group chats?

Your ‘Default post sort’ setting is ‘Top’ which shows you the top posts in the last 24 hours. Some communities have only had a handful of posts in the last 24h so those are the only ones you see. (sticky posts are always shown, even if older than 24h).

I recommend ‘Hot’.

The way it’s done at the moment, all the tracking happens in the client browser and no information about how long someone does anything is sent to the server. So it’s completely private. I’d like to keep it that way.

A very entertaining read. I’m completely unsurprised, based on my experience trying to use Azure. Garbage platform.

And now they’re hacking on that shitshow with CoPilot. Jesus wept.

Let’s wait a day or two, until the novelty wears off, then see if it still deserves a more prominent place.

@Skavau@piefed.social these might fit into the forumverse feeds somewhere, maybe add !freebsd@billboard.bsd.cafe to https://piefed.social/f/operatingsystems ?

Probably no need to do them all, up to you - I expect the only busy one will be freebsd.
