idk fam, are we allowed to make fun of the guy? Like, Stephen Seagal watch parties are OK bc everybody makes fun of him. But on a Monday action movie watch party, mod once chided me for being “too political”. And if we watch a Chuck Norris movie and can’t make fun of his MAGA beliefs, then we’re basically validating them.
these watch parties are one of the things that almost make me want to make yet another account to log onto but this cools me down a bit on the idea.
ikr watch parties are the only reason I have a Mastodon account. Haven’t given up on it yet but we’ll see.
i know its just another entry in my unimportant password manager but im so lazy. I really wish the federation concept had started with seperate authetication servers that all servers would just use them with most instance putting one up alongside whatever else they had. would be neat because folks could run their own authentication server without having to worry about it needing to be online all the time.
I hear ya fam, it took me 2 months after I started doing watch parties to finally make a Mastodon account, I think I had “analysis paralysis”.
for me its less analysis paralysis as much as do I want to make a lemmy/mbin/piefed thing and a mastodon thing and a peertube thing. I mean already I know my forum type thing will likely move over time because it has (for me from kbin to mbin to piefed) and federations strength is being able to move instances and still get the content.
A few of these watch parties have been going for a decade and have developed their culture, preferring to be a respite from politics.
I occasionally make political jokes without chiding. Occasionally I’ll put it behind a US pol content warning.
As for slagging off Chuck (I didn’t realize just how awful his politics had become until reading some stuff after he died) in what is specifically a Chuck “memorial” watch party, I suspect it might not be that welcome.
Personally, I’ll be sticking with #Comedon (at the same time as this), showing the proto Three Stooges film Soup to Nuts. The laughter will be intentional, and the violence more extreme 😜. Nyuk nyuk nyuk!
