One of my favourite albums. Del and Dan the Automator. Got to see him live outdoors in downtown Toronto. Epic
Deltron 3030 is a trio. Apart from those two, it also includes Kid Koala, who’s no slouch either.
Dan the Automator and Kid Koala also had the one-album project Lovage.
Hell yessss.
This is one of the very very few “hip hop” albums I just love. I usually can’t really stand rap/hiphop but that seems to be because I hear mainstream junk a lot…
This is hip hop right? My favorite bands are Kansas and rush, I’m white as a ghost lol
You might dig stuff from the Ninja Tune label, they put out a lot of instrumental hiphop during the nineties-zeroes. Some of Dan the Automator’s music resembles Ninja Tune’s output a lot.
YouTube likely has good mixes if you search for ‘ninja tune’, or their specifically mix departments ‘Solid Steel’ and ‘DJ Food’.
E.g. Roots Manuva, The Cinematic Orchestra, Wagon Christ, Coldcut, Daedelus, DJ Vadim, Bonobo, maybe The Herbaliser.
Thank you I am gonna check these out!!
underground hip hop. mainstream breaks all genras. Del is on this Gorillas track btw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V_xRb0x9aw
I did recall that!
One of my favorite albums from a genre I don’t often enjoy.
I’ve always wondered where some of the samples on this album came from. Great tracks and energy the whole way through.
“And here at the Corporate Institutional Bank of Time, we find ourselves reflecting, finding out that in fact, we came back. We were always coming back…”
IIRC these are actually just their own recordings (might even be Damon Albarn doing the future-y voices on State of the Nation but I’m not the best at recognizing voices) and most of the samples are instrumentals, but I didn’t look very deep into it
Oh well, I guess I’m still chasing that high of following a sample through to Lone Wolf and Cub.
I just want to watch “The plan is programmed into every one of my thousand robots!”
🫴 Whosampled.
Great album, with some silliness on it too! I believe “Virus” brought me to the album, listening to some obscure internet or satellite radio back then.
I wanna devise a virus
To bring dire straits to your environment
Crush your corporations with a mild touch
Trash your whole computer system and revert you to papyrusDel of Deltron also goes by Del the Funky Homosapien (his original name). Recently been going backwards and forwards from this album, mostly forwards. Couple notables Nobody Can, and one he collaborated on with Amp Sit Ya Ass Down plus a remix to boot Sit Ya Ass Down (Del’Amott Remix).
Del is also part of Hieroglyphics which is also great
Right on. I don’t know how he keeps so many lyrics in his head!
Yeah I guess that comes with the ability to come up with all these lyrics too lol.
Fuck yes, this is the shit. I throw this on every now and then
Greatest concept album in the history of rap don’t @ me
thanks tony hawk underground
