Eligible men will automatically be registered into the military draft pool by December as part of an effort to streamline the previous process of self-registration and save money.

If you’re over 18 you’ve almost certainly registered already.

Pretty sure that’s how Gillette new to send every 18 year old a razor blade handle so they’d keep buying refills.

The only new part, is it’s automatic now.

You should still be pissed, but you should have already been pissed too.

When the president is as shitty as trump, people just start noticing things they never cared about.

Maybe things will change if half of the men aged 18-25 change to women. Even if it’s temporary.

They (the fascist) generally target minorities. They pick easy targets with low power.

What will happen when transgender people are no longer the minority scapegoat group?

        Also the draft is sexist.

        1. Drafts shouldn’t’t exist. If you can’t get the people in your country to die for something, it’s probably not worth them dying for it. Get a better reason and people will volunteer.

        2. It targets men only. That’s sexist. Misogynist. Assumes only young men make good soldiers or that women should be kept for making more soldiers. Also views young men’s lives as more expendable . If a draft is made it should be for men women and non binary.

        3. Draft targets young people who lose more. Make old people fight. They already lived a life.

You heard of the movie Gay Deceivers (1969)?

It’s about two men pretending to be gay to get out of the Vietnam war draft.

It’s still fairly funny. Even though it has some issues by modern standards. Mostly the use of gratuitous gay stereotypes. But if you watch it as campy, it still works.

It also highlights the discrimination that gays experienced and it’s progressive for its time.

It does have this iconic scene though where another gay man says to a woman tramping through his flower garden to get off his peonies.

“You dirty bitch, look what you’ve done to my peonies”

Which she replies they aren’t peonies and he says

“I may not know my flowers , but I know a bitch when I see one”.

        Based.

Why’s that? You’re legally required to register either way, this just takes out the completely pointless process of completing the forms.

In a sane world in sane times, sure. But during a defacto-war with an unhinged Secretary of Defense and Commander-in-Chief controlled by Russia/Israel? Ya, that’s a big no.

Why does any of that matter?

There’s always a tyrannical leader on the horizon, best not to have a draft at all, but that’s not what we’re discussing.

            What?!? Not really.

Sure, ideally there’s no registering for a draft. But in my lifetime there has never been a realistic chance of a draft being called, so any objection has been mostly symbolic. I don’t think that realistic chance is remote any longer. Luckily I’m too old for it anyway, and also have dual citizenship.

Of course it is? Saying otherwise is just ignorance of history.

It is not even remotely symbolic. A draft is a very realistic possibility, and the fact that it even exists should be evidence enough. The last draft wasn’t even that long ago. President Bone Spur dodged it.

Yes, I agree that it is now a realistic possibility. When I signed the selective service card in the 90’s, not really. For that reason, objection to it now is real, whereas objection to a theoretical draft then was more symbolic.
