I’m with you. I think there is some value in trying to reach the people on the data-harvesting platforms, but I would rather see that coupled with an incessant campaign to guide people into the Fediverse. At the end of every post, link to an article about how to do it. Do a monthly reminder about migrating and how & why the Fediverse is better.
I genuinely appreciate the work EFF does, but I think that this move is long overdue, and they could be doing more with their platform.

It’s not an exploit. It’s a built-in setting in Signal, and the Android options are identical to the one displayed above. You can turn off notification history in Android as well, so it has no stored record of cleared notifications at all.

Yes and no: the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prevents the government from overtly favoring one religion over another, so if they want Bible studies in public schools, they’ll have to equitably provide Catholics, Satanists, Muslims, Witches, Polytheists, etc. the same deference and inclusion in teaching materials as Protestant Christianity.
And yet none of the attempts in the last decade have stuck. Same SCOTUS.
This is just political theater.

I doubt it. States have tried over and over again (both recently and in the past) to require the Bible, to require the 10 commandments, and on and on to no ultimate success. The Establishment Clause is clear, and this is more political theater from a Republican dominated government trying to gin up support for the midterms by creating a spectacle.
They’re not an activist organization. Americans United or the Freedom From Religion Foundation are the ones who will most likely be fighting this.

46.2M people in the US in 2024 were born in a different country (excluding people born on US milliary bases, embassies, or other areas abroad still considered US soil). An estimated 11mil of those are undocumented immigrants. There is no possible way that there are 100mil immigrants in the US. Period.
If they are serious about deporting 100mil people, and I’m not so stupid at this point to believe they’re being hyperbolic about even the most bitshit things they say, it won’t just be “illegals” or even immigrants more generally that they will be deporting; that other 54mil has to come from somewhere.
