It kind of did. Shit started going to hell a lot earlier, but Covid (and the associated conspiracy theories etc. going mainstream) turbocharged it.

World News@lemmy.world•Outrage in Gaza as Hamas kills civilians in crackdown on criticsEnglish
62·29 days agoYou’re aware that the current year is 2026, not 1948 right? The vast majority of Israelis are not settlers who moved there, they were born there.

World News@lemmy.world•Outrage in Gaza as Hamas kills civilians in crackdown on criticsEnglish
125·29 days agoFreedom fighters don’t massacre civilians.
Freedom fighters don’t take civilians hostage.
Freedom fighters don’t parade their victims through the streets.
Freedom fighters don’t rape.
Hamas are terrorists. The fact that the IDF is also guilty of those things does not change what Hamas is, and it does not justify what Hamas does.
Your personal needs are not the concern
And with that attitude you’ve already lost.
Plastiksocken klingt schon nach einer besonderen Art der Hölle.

Computer RPG Games@lemmy.world•The Elder Scrolls 6 runs on a new version of the Creation Engine, his Howardliness confirmsEnglish
2·2 months agoYou didn’t, but that’s usually what people jump to with Starfield. Sorry.
But still, nope. None of the things I’ve listed were seriously limited by the engine, and fundamentally the issue for me was that the game wasn’t Skyrim in Space. Skyrim had cities that (while tiny) were filled with NPCs that had actual “lives”, and the countryside you could explore was fully handcrafted and had something hidden in every cave and behind every second tree stump. Starfield by contrast was dead and empty. By design. That was a conscious choice and not one forced by technical limitations.

31·2 months agoIt’s not. Starfield without loading screens would not be a better game, it’d just be Starfield without loading screens. The fundamental design choices (limited handcrafted areas, endlessly repeating “points of interest”, mostly static NPCs in towns with very limited interactions) that made the game just plain boring would still be there.

ETA - Also, when I said I don’t care, I meant it. I don’t judge people’s actions by their ideals and intentions, I judge by the outcomes. And the outcome is, well, this.

71·2 months agoI would. I’m not sure how dbzer0’s governance works/is supposed to work because I, quite frankly, don’t care, but the other admins tolerate unruffled’s behaviour. They made them an admin and they’re choosing to keep them around. They might not be directly responsible for unruffled’s actions but they’re enabling them.
I’m just having a hard time believing that many prostitutes are doing it because they want to. And I mean actually want to and not because they’ve got other choices. Plus there’s a huge amount of human trafficking and outright slavery in the industry, but that’s hopefully something that can be addressed with regulation.
Unfavourable, but I’m also aware that is gonna happen regardless of my (or anyone else’s, including the government’s) opinion on it. So it should be legal and strictly regulated to ensure that it’s as safe as possible for everyone involved.

8·3 months agoBecause they mean “please fellate our favourite dictators”. They don’t actually say that, but that’s what they mean. The “voices from the global south” that they’re talking about are Putin, the CCP, the Ayatollah and their assorted and equally unsavoury friends.
I’ve never seen a shop have different prices for different payment methods in my life.
Is that an America thing?
You say it’s okay when the US does it
Uh, no. I’m not. Learn to read.
I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make here? That we should deny inconvenient facts because they don’t fit simple black-and-white narratives? The War on Terror spawning countless atrocities against civilians doesn’t retroactively justify 9/11 or sheltering those responsible for it.
Not that the 20 year occupation of Afghanistan wasn’t an absolute clusterfuck, but the Taliban were harbouring Al-Qaida leadership. To say otherwise is just denying historical facts.

Those blocks don’t look great in summer either. It’s the brownish grey paint which was very common at one point and which makes any and all buildings look depressing, regardless of age, size or architectural style. It’s an easy fix though, just repaint them.
