I think he was half joking and half thinking of communities hes on that are more tech savvy. I’m also a little bit younger than him and interact with people younger than me, and I think theres a disconnect there.

Yes, I miss vent and irc but most people never used text or voice chat until it was centralized and braindead easy to use. I would like to go back to something like that, but most people never used it in the first place (compared to active users now) and probably have no interest in learning/setting it up.

As an early 30 something guy, I don’t see most people my age hopping ship to something like Matrix or older comm software because of the learning curve vs Discord. Younger people even less based on my personal experience.

I was talking with a friend about this when they announced age verification. He seemed pretty optimistic that this would hopefully bring back forums/irc/vent servers or anything self hostable, but I’m not to sure. I’m sure all of us here knew what was going on with this, but I’m sure the average person still doesnt care as much and will continue to trade away privacy for convenience. We all have family and friends who come to when something like this happens, but continue to use services afterwards. Seems like we will continue to be a fun club of like minded people here on fedi stuff with most people staying with what they know.

Lost SciFi sounds awesome. I was listening to a few sci fi radio dramas and some short story audio books a little bit ago at work. I’ll check it out!

Black Pants Legion sounds interesting. I have never played TT games but mechs and lore is always cool.

Halfman sounds interesting, I played Tarkov for a month or two in 2022. It was a lot of fun but I didnt have the time to play a lot, and felt like I was so under geared two months into a reset. If the single player mod still is being developed, I was thinking of giving that another shot.

I have been catching up on some Nothernlion bits and banter videos, those could probably work

I just started watching TNG for the first time. Maybe once I’m done I’ll throw that in rotation!

Personally I was always confused by it. I’m a white guy who loves long clothes and rock jeans whenever I can. My dad would (still does sometimes) wear shorts when its sub 50°F. I would ask why and he said he was from Michigan so I wrote it off.

I had a few friends in middle and high school who would wear shorts year round. I never realized why and they told me they were tough and shorts look cool. After growing up and looking back on their situation they probably only owned a set of clothes for year round use.

I just watched Drag me to Hell for the first time in a decade with my wife and siblings in law a week ago. I forgot how funny and over the top it was. I ended up being the only one who finished it.

My last contract had that and the first year I barely used 2 weeks. My regional manager started giving us heads up during contract negotiation time that we might not get it. Ended up taking 3 weeks that he approved and felt so good to actually use the benefits that were promised. He was going to retire soon anyways, so he was approving left and right.

Ended up get hired back at the same place under a different company, and now our PTO and vacation is horseshit

My first “true gaming PC” has been turned into a NAS and small docker host. Its about to turn 15, and I have spare hardware to upgrade it, but I like to see how much I can churn out of it.

Has anyone set one of these up? A friend of mine just found one in a box during their move, and asked if this project was still active.
